Re: [At-Large] [ALAC-Internal] Report on the Workshop
Hello Veronica,
For those of you who could not open the Word version of the report I sent earlier, I am sending attached the PDF version as well! Is there a reason that the public list gets the .DOC file but only members of the Internal ALAC list got the PDF version?

Greetings, here comes the PDF version of the report for the public list! Thanks! Please don't interpret my comments as any kind of accusation, or a lack of appreciation for Veronica's hard work. It's just that the only way we're going to overcome an attitude of defaulting to privacy is to point it out at every occasion -- even if it's accidental or unintentional. It really is necessary to get ALAC to think in terms of defaulting to openness unless privacy is specifically called for. It's sad that the existing culture appears to have set in a little more deeply than many would like, but it is fixable with a little vigilance. Even in the recent case of the domain tasting document, there was no reason to take the debate internal on the last day -- ESPECIALLY since there was no specific vote to endorse on the last day. The author(s) of a document are welcome to ignore last-minute comments, however the need for expediency is no excuse to suddenly turn an open process opaque. Even if last-second comment is limited to ALAC members, their comments still deserve a public audience. - Evan
As previously discussed in this list there will be discussion, and a formal motion regarding this matter of list use and best options for transparency at the Dec 11th ALAC Meeting. At this point it will read: That ALAC conduct any internal discussion on Policy related matters on a list that is publicly archived and available for all to see. The specifics of this Motion was raised in this list by Alan, endorsed by Brett, seconded as a proposal by Robert, and formalised as a notice of motion by my support...
