Wendy, you should immediately get in touch with Diane Schroeder and arrange your travel to the Board retreat of October 4. Also, please let me know who is replacing me in the policy work on the RAA submission and amendments. The deadline is today, but I have obtained some more days from staff. The document is basically ready, but there is the need to incorporate the round of comments to the second draft, and get it approved by the Committee according to its rules of procedure. It would be hypocritical to thank the Committee for expressions of appreciation for my work, as there is none - so I will not be doing it; I will rather offer my apologies for such a failure in matching the spirit and expectations of the Committee in these few months. But I do wish good luck to the ALAC; it will now need to grow beyond quarreling on procedures, staging elaborate elections for positions, regularly asking for additional budget, and blaming ICANN staff and leadership (or the Board liaison...) for whatever failure. I have seen several bright and enthusiastic people among the newcomers, so - after the process of getting rid of old timers is concluded - I think that the objective can be accomplished successfully. Thus I look forward to dense and fruitful policy discussions on the ALAC list and on all the RALO lists. Regards, -- vb. Dear ALAC Colleagues! Warm greetings! First of all, I would really want to take the opportunity to Congradulate both Wendy and Vittorio with the Board Liason election results. Now, after you both know the results, you should keep in mind that this is a new beginning for both of you and your feelings should be great – be optimistic regarding the fact that whatever happens, happens for the best. For Wendy this is a great opportunity to put in practice the Diplomatic vs. Legal vs. Negotiation and Representation Skills at the ICANN Board level; for Vittorio it is a great opportunity to take advantage of the knowledge and skills already acquired at ICANN Board level for both personal and professional purposes. Second of all, no matter how many discussions there have been recently on ALAC around the election results, I propose that we do not discuss it any longer as we can not change that (we can not change what happened 5 minutes ago) – it is PAST; but we can change the FUTURE and think about Strategic Planning vs. Implementation of concrete initiatives and many more!!! Many thanks for your all the contributions, Vittorio, from the bottom of me heart. As we spent almost all days and nights of ALAC from the very beginning, or even before that, together, I share how your feel now. I am sure the committee will formaly acknowledge your contributions and achievements and will thank you in shared spirit. Congratulations to Wendy, as you are also one of the old-timers of ALAC, I wish you will take all of our collective experiences and lessons to bring to such an important role of the Board Liaison. As our colleagues pointed out and expressed, we have certain pains in the past few weeks or so. As an incumbent member, I feel somewhat guilty and responsible. But at the same time I am sure we can all learn more from our mistakes than successes, and thus we now have a great opportunity to bring these valuable lessons forward, and bury the bad experiences into the graveyard ;-). izumi
Point of order-- doesn't Vittorio serve until the conclusion of the annual meeting? And Wendy would be seated directly following that? Vittorio, I thought your board reports were most informative and I personally thank you for writing them in such a complete manner, and also for your tireless work on behalf of At-Large. Congratulation Wendy, Good Luck in your new position . Thank you Vittorio for all the efforts, hard work and contributions to whole ALAC community . Thank you from Africa :-) Regards, Mohamed Vittorio Bertola wrote:

Congratulations, Wendy! It's been agonizing (and often unintentionally funny) to watch the process, and a relief to see the end of it. I hoping that there are some lessons learned, and that future procedural issues will be less.... complex. Evan Leibovitch Toronto
