I was going to say this at our face-to-face meeting, but since Izumi introduced this, I will follow up. First, I need to make clear that this is NOT a statement about either of our candidates. I made the exact same statement last year when Wendy was the new contender. I too think that we need to consider this from two aspects: - the effectiveness of a Board member is at least partially dependant on his or her ability to get used to the dynamics of the Board and establish good working relationships with other Board members. That is not to say that I would advocate a Board-liaison-for-life - I don't but we need to give some time for things to gel, and I think that one year is simply not sufficient. - we need to consider how our actions look to other parts of ICANN. Most other Board members have moderately long longevity on the Board and changing our Liaison every year gives us an immature image. That being said at ANY time that we feel that our Liaison is simply not representing us effectively, we need to take swift action to either fix the problem or remove the person with due speed. 4.7 They shall accept to serve on behalf of the AT LARGE COMMUNITY by acting for the good of the entire Committee, working to bridge differences and build consensus, but also recognizing difference and enabling different opinions to be shared;
4.8 They shall accept, while acting in their capacity as ALAC representative, to put the collective views of the ALAC, always, in front of their own.

I will follow your path, Alan, agreeing and disagreeing about your position and not state about the quality of the candidates, because both are very very good ones. This was my rationale to appoint a candidate: • It is true that the board dynamics is quite difficult to understand, but not for who with an important history in ICANN, as Wendy (or myself) has, and 5 meetings f2f a year plus at least once a month call give a good opportunity to interact with members specially when you already know most of them. • However, it is also true that "fresh blood", with other experiences and way to address things, brings a fresh view from board members about ALAC and our issues, and probably more attention to listen what he ( she ) has to say.
