I was going to say this at our face-to-face meeting, but since Izumi introduced this, I will follow up. First, I need to make clear that this is NOT a statement about either of our candidates. I made the exact same statement last year when Wendy was the new contender. I too think that we need to consider this from two aspects: - the effectiveness of a Board member is at least partially dependant on his or her ability to get used to the dynamics of the Board and establish good working relationships with other Board members. That is not to say that I would advocate a Board-liaison-for-life - I don't but we need to give some time for things to gel, and I think that one year is simply not sufficient. - we need to consider how our actions look to other parts of ICANN. Most other Board members have moderately long longevity on the Board and changing our Liaison every year gives us an immature image. That being said at ANY time that we feel that our Liaison is simply not representing us effectively, we need to take swift action to either fix the problem or remove the person with due speed. Hopefully fixing the problem would be possible by suitable discussions and counselling. Alan At 24/06/2008 06:32 AM, Izumi AIZU wrote:
I second Alan's nomination for Wendy, taking the lesson from the last election in which we had to replace our able liaison within 1 year. One year is not enough.
