I can hear the call but can not participate. It would be very nice if ICANN were to stop using proprietary software to facilitate these meetings. I *do* have answers to several of the questions that have been asked, particularly Even's questions on duties/rights of board members, but I can not give them. Adobe Connect Pro simply does not work on Linux 64 bit. ICANN should avoid making a Microsoft or Apple purchase a prior condition of participating in these discussions. --karl--

Since I can not speak into the call because of proprietary software used for the meeting here are some questions and answers -- 1. Even asked about the power to pull back directors that do not follow what the public wants - Under California law (section 5222 of the corporations code) a corporation that has "member" gives those members the power to recall directors that they have seated. See http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/cgi-bin/displaycode?section=corp&group=05001-06000... Also check out http://www.cavebear.com/archive/icann-board/platform.htm#full-members The trouble is that ICANN has a strong allergy against "membership", a thing that occurs when there is an "election" for a director seat. Expect this issue to come up in several forms during this task of figuring out how to fill the public seat. 2. Sebastian asked about 9 directors from the public - When ICANN was created a promise was made that a controlling part of the votes on the board would be held by people chosen by the public. That promise has, obviously, never been fulfilled. --karl--
Adobe Connect Pro simply does not work on Linux 64 bit.
I was on a call with Kieren last week on the same system, and I understood that the Adobe package was an experiment. (It worked alright for me on Vista 64.) If there is something better, please let Kieren know. I think he is open to anything better and reliably cross- platform. -- Bret

The system used by Milton et al at Syracuse seems like a good one. Adobe seems to have a resistance to Linux in general and 64-bit Linux in specific, even their flash player on 64-bit is an "experiment". --karl--
