Re: [At-Large] FW: WIPO: DNS Developments Feed Growing Cybersquatting Concerns
Danny and all, I can't say for a certantity what ICANN Bod and staff members do on a day to day basis, but it is clear that whatever they are doing is not addressing the issues that they are very well aware of in any effective manner, and haven't been for a number of years now, if ever. Such represents a failure of mission due to a lack of competant leadership IMO. I am not a fan of WIPO, and never have been nor will ever likely ever be, but Francis is correct in his evaluation none the less. Yet WIPO also is nearly as bad as they haven't addressed effectively a number of IP related issues facing their organization either and seemingly are refusing to do so. Pot, kettle black, IMO. However like most UN organisations, but not all, WIPO does alot of debate, discuss, and contemplation, but actually does very little, and manages to accomplish irritating many. However as the RIAA and MPAA are WIPO active members, this sort of behavior is not all that surprising... -----Original Message-----

If you take a look at last year's correspondence from WIPO to ICANN, you'll note the same set of unresolved complaints regarding registrars, namely:
non-compliant registration provisions, the failure to provide complete or correct registration information, simple uncontactability, 'cyberflight'-related or other modifications to registrant data after a complaint is filed, and failure to properly implement transfer decisions.
Francis Gurry also wrote: "WIPO has informed ICANN of many such instances and will shortly provide a fuller overview of these practices, which call for independent and active oversight."
See http://www.icann.org/correspondence/gurry-to-twomey-04jul07.pdf
What has been ICANN's response to this situation? Have we seen any efforts to clean up the problems? I haven't; and obviously WIPO hasn't seen any progress either.
Perhaps we can take up these issues with Stacey Burnette at the upcoming NARALO teleconference... I'm sure there's a legitimate reason why ICANN continues to do little-to-nothing to address valid complaints :(
