Berry/All, I stayed at the St Francis a couple years back after they did a major remodel. It was a great hotel and extremely convenient to get around. There are also quite a few other hotels in the Union Square area as well as boutique hotels. Kimpton Hotels area always a great experience (map included of the area): http://www.kimptonhotels.com/hotels/hotels-sanfrancisco.aspx Also I will note, upon arrival in SFO take the BART (metro) direct into Union Square. It's about a 25-30 minute ride. Upon arrival at the Union Square station the St. Francis is a block away. Cheers, -Scott Scott M. As most know, San Francisco is not short on hotels. I find it odd that ICANN announced the Westin St. Francis. I could swear reading Board minutes on San Francisco approval that they chose the other Westin on 3rd. Oh well.
Regardless, I made my hotel reservation for The Palace Hotel (Starwood) back then. I got a smoking rate compared to what they are offering now. I know it is preferred to stay in the same hotel as the ICANN meeting, but my last stay at the St. Francis was less than appealing. Unless they have remodeled over the past few years, the rooms are very worn out. Union Square is quite the tourist location. So do not fret if you cannot get a room at the St. Francis, as there are many close alternatives. The Hilton a few blocks away is very nice and the other Starwood hotels are awesome. My favorite is the W, of course. The St. Regis is really nice, but I have not stayed there. If your room is not at ground zero, no worries, it is so easy and fun to get around town.
See you all then!

Yes, but when will the ICANN room block open? I would guess that if you try to make a reservation now via the hotel website the dates will be blocked. Philip S. Corwin Partner, Butera & Andrews 1301 Pennsylvania Ave., NW Suite 500 Washington, DC 20004 202-347-6875/Office 202-255-6172/Cell

At very tense meeting between Govt and ICANN board.
Govt Advisory Committee agrees to ICANN board offer to meet for a day or two (retreat) before San Francisco Meeting. This is strongest indication yet that gTLD will not be approved on Friday but in San Francisco in March.
And I predict board will approve .xxx to show they have teeth.
