local Business Engagement events.
Elisa, On the call today, you asked for opinions and guidance of where Chris Mondni should be going with the local Business Engagement events. Most previous events have seen a very low turnout of local business leaders. I appreciate it is difficult to organize remotely but we need attendance of 100+ to make this worthwhile to do outreach for ICANN, for the BC, and for ourselves. The only way is via local business organizations such as Chamber of Commerce and get them on board and excited anout a meeting for their members that ICANN funds. It is an opportunity for their members to learn about ICANN and BC and meet us, the travelling business people in town. I am member of a number of chambers, and I am thinking about it from the other side. If it was properly and well advance promoted within the Chamber there would be a good turnout. Perhaps that needs a Chamber committee member well on board. If not and the invite is just emails and phone calls then the chamber might just send a few along as a courtesy. I dont know the organizational route to date but the outcome in the past has been the latter. Again it may need a ICANN and/or BC member to make an advance visit to personally meet and present to the chamber committee and get them so on board. I absolutely agree with this approach as well. We should work with Chris to help him help us. Count on me for this lunch or any other activity that involves discussing these topics. Our approach has been to bring ICANN to the events and places were businesses are already present and/ or to organize events during the ICANN meeitngs with local together with leading organizations that can bring their members to an appealing ICANN event during the meeting. I think many of us share these views. And we have been quite successful with this kind of approach in the past. I have worked with Chris for the Buenos Aires meeting. The webinar we have organized before the meeting was great. When we showed leadership from the local organizations and expertise in organizing these type of events, he was absolutely open and collaborative and he listened and supported our efforts. For the events during the meeting it was more complex, there were too many activities going on at the same time. But I am sure that is possible to learn the lessons and improve. We should focus in the concurrent points of our agendas and be able to leverage the opportunities. As mentioned on the call yesterday, I believe that we should engage Chris as well. I like the idea of reaching out to chambers of commerce. The ICC has helped organize events in the past. Many companies simply aren't aware of the important role that ICANN plays and the impact it can have on their businesses. Maybe the increased focus on Internet Governance may change that. This is a wonderful suggestion. My primary career allows me to deal with various businesses and executives. If I find one out ten who knows what ICANN even it is, that would be a miracle. Anyway I can help, please advise. On Thu, Feb 20, 2014 at 11:36 AM, Chris Chaplow <chris@andaluciaws.com>wrote:

Let's gather in Singapore among ourselves first? But it is important to also keep in mind the CCWG event and key messages developing that are businesses priorities, not necessarily ICANN staff's, so developing ideas about what to do and how ICANN contributes is different form ICANN Running a show that we show up at.
