Dear Councillors, Basing on community feedback, ICANN decided to start offering travel support for members of the supporting organisations. The intention is to help people participate in ICANN and the work of the supporting organisations. ICANN has therefore now drafted a "Travel Process" (a copy is attached) and seeks your input. The main points are as follows: - The travel funding includes an economy class ticket to the destination of the ICANN meeting (the Chair gets a business class ticket) + a per diem which is defined by the place the meeting takes place (on average it's US$2800/trip). - Although it's mainly intended to support the travel of councillors, the process is flexible, so that other active ccNSO participants can be chosen to receive the travel funding instead (for instance working group chairs or members). - In total 12 ccNSO councillors (or other ccNSO participants) are eligible to receive funding (this includes the three NomCom appointees). - The ccNSO is requested to create A) a selection/allocation process to determine who from the ccNSO should receive funding B) a process on how to publicly report the spending (for transparency and accountability reasons). - At least 60 days prior to each ICANN meeting, the ccNSO shall provide a list of which individuals of the SO will be supported. - The travel fund is only for travel expenses. All travel will be booked through ICANN's approved travel agency (see page 5 for further details on booking) - The travel support procedure will be reviewed at the end of FY09. I will attend a telephone conference on this issue on Tuesday 19th, where we will discuss "FAQs". Any input or questions from you would therefore be very valuable. Unfortunately, I must ask you for your input/questions by Monday evening, as that's when I need to convey all input received. Sorry about this short deadline! Gabi
