Thanks, Carolina, for the clarity. I'm happy that your LAC strategy process involves LAC ccTLDs from the very beginning, which is in the interests of the ccNSO. The important point is that regardless of how good an ICANN strategy for a region may be, it's likely going to be difficult to effectively implement it without co-operation of the ccTLDs. Practically it's ccTLDs that are more adaptable to ICANN's key principle of multi stakeholder engagement processes than governments or national ICT regulators. Dear Councillors:
ICANN's VP for the region, Rodrigo de la Parra, shared on 19 September the draft strategy document that Vika forwarded. This document was based on input provided by different players of the LAC Internet community during July and August to which at least 10 ccTLDs from LAC provided their comments. This presentation also served as a very broad basis for the LAC meeting held last Wednesday in Toronto, but there's still key processes, outcomes and deliverables to be accomplished in order to have a full LAC strategy and that was mainly what last week session's was about. Rodrigo de la Parra unfortunately couldn't attend the meeting due to visa issues to enter Canada, so the work is still going and last night he sent an email to the different Internet organizations of the region in order to start a Working Group to help build this document. I'm also resending the message sent last week by LACTLD's Chairman, Eduardo Santoyo to LACTLD's GA list, to which many of you are subscribed, which provides an overview and a statement of commitment of our Regional Organization facing the work to be accomplished on our side for this strategy before November 15. I hope this is informative enough and please do not hesitate to contact me about this. Best regards, Carolina

Dear Colleagues and Friends,
I will not go through the details of what will be contained in the ICANN meeting report, but I would like to raise a discussion in this list with regards to how we, as a region will have to assume and I believe we have to take upon us this responsibility with enthusiasm and energy.
The new ICANN president, Fadi Chehadé, has proposed to define a strategic framework and concrete action lines for our region with the aim of improving our relationship as a regional community with ICANN and of improving the shared benefits of this relationship. With this purpose, Rodrigo de la Parra has prepared a draft document which is now proposed for discussion (please see attached file).
We need to compromise ourselves in reading the document and doing all the commentaries we deem to be relevant to help collectively in the development of this strategy building. The invitation is to use this list for this purpose in order to discuss this so that a new version of this document can be produced with your feedback and input.
It would be really important to achieve this before 15 November, so please bear this date in mind and I look forward receiving your comments.
Thanks.

Dear Jian,
('ve decided to share the response with ccNSO council, as we discussed this a bit when we prepared for the Board meeting in Toronto)
Yes I travelled safely back to Joburg. I suppose you also travelled safely back to CN.
Please find attached the email I received from Erick Ahon (former LACTLD GM) about the LAC strategy. It seems it's an initiative driven by Rodrigo de la Parra - ICANN's VP: LAC. I'm not sure how far the strategy has progressed, but I suppose ccNSO councillors from LAC (Margerita, Eduardo) or Carolina (LACTLD GM) can provide you & the Council with an update.

ASUNTO: LAC DRAFT STRATEGY-REQUEST FOR COMMENTS-BORRADOR DE ESTRATEGIA SOLICITUD DE COMENTARIOS
(ENGLISH BELOW)
Estimados,
Agradezco a todos sus comentarios e insumos para elaborar este primer borrador de estrategia de nuestra región en ICANN. He intentado sintetizar los objetivos y líneas de acción propuestas. Espero no haber omitido ninguna aportación.
Dear All,
I would like to thank you for your comments and input to elaborate this first draft of the strategy for our region in ICANN. I have tried to synthesize the proposed objectives and lines of action. I hope I have included them all. If that is not the case, please let me know to include them in the next version of this document.
To enrich this document I have increased the distribution list to include all of the stakeholders from the region that, in one way or the other, have been involved in ICANN (ccNSO, GAC, ASO, gNSO, At-Large, NOMCOM, Board).
The idea is to use the next couple of weeks to obtain further feedback from you and improve the document facing our ICANN meeting in Toronto. In due course, I would really appreciate if you could send me your comments by October 4th. With this I will create a document that will be available before our session in Toronto and that can be used as a basis document for our dialogue.
I will send later the agenda for your comments and will confirm the date and time of the session. There will be video streaming and remote participation for those who can't join us.
Best Regards,
Rodrigo de la Parra
