I'll amend the document as per Becky's suggestions and pick up the typo spotted by Patricio. From: Burr, Becky [mailto:Becky.Burr@wilmerhale.com] Sent: Thursday, 2 July 2009 23:13 To: Chris Disspain; ccNSO Council Subject: RE: [ccnso-council] Input on geographic names in new gTLDs I have one lingering concern about this document. Karklins' comments are about "geographic names," which would seem to me to include city names. Our comments are entitled "geographical names" but address country names only. I am very comfortable with the ccnso comments on country names. I am concerned that our comments could be interpreted to apply to city and regional names as well, however. In the past, the GAC took the position that city names should have the support of the relevant city, which seems quite sensible. But to my knowledge we haven't taken the view that city/regional names should be exempt from ICANN rules. To avoid any confusion, can we call this paper: Geographical Names - Input from ccNSO Council on Country/Territory Names. And, can we add a sentence somewhere that says: "These comments are limited to the use of country/territory names in top level domains, but are not intended to address the use of city or regional names."
