Chris, I guess being African makes my view biased in any case! I support the continuation of the meeting in Nairobi. I think the very fact that the US & ATAC (interesting abbreviation this is as it commands one to "attack"J) are closely watching the situation & tend to think the meeting should still proceed, provides one with reason to go ahead with the meeting. Having said that, it will be in everybody's interest to closely monitor the situation & make decisions that serves their interests well. Regards, Vika Mpisane ZADNA +27 11 275 0082 From: owner-ccnso-council@icann.org [mailto:owner-ccnso-council@icann.org] On Behalf Of Chris Disspain Sent: 15 February 2010 09:06 AM To: ccNSO Council Subject: [ccnso-council] Nairobi meeting All, You will have seen the various announcements about security issues that have arisen regarding the Nairobi meeting. The latest is at http://nbo.icann.org/meetings/security-information-12feb10-en.htm. I thought that you might be interested to note that Australia's Department of Foreign Affairs (DFAT) has sought advice from the Australian Threat Assessment Centre (ATAC) on the advisory the US Department of State provided and has indicated that ATAC has assessed the threat as non-credible, and therefore has decided to not upgrade its travel advisory for Nairobi. When I am asked (as I have been several times) what the ccNSO's view is on continuing with the Nairobi meeting I have said that we remain committed to having the meeting and supporting our African colleagues. This is still my view but it would help me enormously if council members would confirm that this is their view as well or let me know if you feel differently.
