Dear Jörg, Thank you for brining up this issue! We should definitely talk about it in London. We are currently trying to find a suitable slot and will come back to you later. However, to start the discussion we need somebody who could present the issue to the community. Any ideas? Jörg, you yourself perhaps? Dear all,
Several registries have applied for amendments to the Registry Agreements to implement a new registry service, which would permit the introduction of two-character domain names for registration in the new gTLD namespace. In total, the requests concern 148 New gTLDs:
If my recollection isn't wrong DNS stability considerations were at least one reason for the exclusion. I haven't seen a re-evalution, especially not in the light of 1000+ new gTLDs (in the first place stability contemplations for Two-character Domain Names were raised even in the context of the 250+ cc's and the established gTLDS,+- 10 ). Two-character Domain Names will - among other aspects - contribute significantly to the revenue preposition of the new gTLDs. It's up to the respective ccTLD managers to digest the impact on their name space. .de has already been approached by some nTLDs to agree to the usage of strings like "de.nTLD" (as possible under the current ICANN policy ruling). Most certainly the request above will lead to a general decision and not only one for those 148 gTLDS. Should we discuss the matter at ICANN50?
