Hello all,
I have the fortune of knowing a British associate who returned home from Nairobi this week after a business trip. He has responded to some questions I have asked and I reproduce them unedited.
- Evan
- Did you encounter any safety incidents?
None, felt safe all the time. Our Kenyan contact says there are areas of the city that are not very safe but I guess that is true anywhere. If you like meat, go to the Carnivore restaurant, a real experience :-)
- Did you ever feel unsafe?
Only when about 2m from a lion in the Safari Park :-) Seriously, driving is a bit of an experience since they take no notice of traffic lights or road conventions but actually that makes everyone drive a bit slower.
- Did you believe that the areas you traveled were adequately safe and/or policed?
Saw quite a few police but everyone we met was friendly cheerful etc. I think Washington DC and LA were a lot more scary!
- How was your experience at the airport?
Again as good as in the USA - which is probably not saying much ;-)
Basically we had to pay a £20 VISA fee but other than that it was pretty much the same as any other airport.
Any answers you may offer will be extremely helpful. I know of a lot of people who are nervous and others who have already cancelled. Any information that would help us -- on either the decision to go or precautions to take once there -- would be greatly appreciated.
If you travel from a reputable hotel by Taxi I don't think you have much to worry about.
All I'm saying is I'm looking forward to my next visit. We had a great time. My son, who is very safety conscious has no worries. Certaily Johannesburg in South Africa is a lot more intimidating. _______________________________________________ ALAC-Internal mailing list ALAC-Internal@atlarge-lists.icann.org http://atlarge-lists.icann.org/mailman/listinfo/alac-internal_atlarge-lists....
