For info - do others feel similarly? cheers Jordan ---------- Forwarded message --------- From: Jordan Carter <jordan@internetnz.net.nz> Date: Tue, 12 Mar 2019 at 11:47 Subject: Budget info / Strategy suggestion To: Giovanni Seppia (giovanni.seppia@eurid.eu) <giovanni.seppia@eurid.eu>, Roelof Meijer <roelof.meijer@sidn.nl>, Cherine Chalaby < cherine.chalaby@board.icann.org>, Katrina Sataki <katrina@nic.lv>, Byron Holland <byron.holland@cira.ca>, <chris.disspain@board.icann.org>, Becky Burr <becky.burr@board.icann.org>, <nigel.roberts@board.icann.org> Hi folks, Following into this discussion about the link between the Strategy and what the org is focused on, I had a quick look at the high level budget summary and the operating plan for 2019/20: Budget summary - https://www.icann.org/en/system/files/files/proposed-total-budget-fy20-17dec... Operating Plan - https://www.icann.org/en/system/files/files/proposed-opplan-fy20-17dec18-en.... and at the latest org report: https://www.icann.org/uploads/board_report/attachment/85/ICANN_Org_Executive... The thing that is striking about these reports is that they are very functionally based - personnel, executive teams etc. That approach is quite conventional and meets the needs of the organisation to understand what's available and what is to be done by each part of the org. What it does not do is drive focus of the work on the strategic goals. BAU then risks crowding that out. My suggestion is that if you align the planning and reporting categories with the strategic framework, it will help to drive the strategy into thinking throughout the business. So then it's easy to answer "how much does ICANN spend on Goal 1?" whereas today that's hard. Maybe SOPC could consider this further, Giovanni? cheers Jordan -- *Jordan Carter* Group Chief Executive InternetNZ Office: +64-4-555-0123 | Mobile: +64 21 442 649 Email: jordan@internetnz.net.nz | Skype: jordancarter *A better world through a better Internet * -- *Jordan Carter* Group Chief Executive InternetNZ Office: +64-4-555-0123 | Mobile: +64 21 442 649 Email: jordan@internetnz.net.nz | Skype: jordancarter *A better world through a better Internet *
