Dear Councillors, As you may know several of the ccNSO working groups are now using the virtual meeting tool Adobe Connect as an additional communication tool for their conference calls and I would like to note that this is an option for the Council as well. Adobe Connect is good for several reasons: - Communicating through the chat - Displaying documents - Connecting to the call using only the computer - Voting on simple issues/documents The most important thing is that nobody should feel excluded and we are aware that many of you on occasions need to take the Council calls on the road with no internet access. It would be of much help o us if you could all indicate whether or not you think Adobe Connect would be a good tool for the Council calls, either on the list or directly to me. Based on how people respond we will decide on whether or not it is worth a try. Greetings All, Just a note in praise of adobe connect. The FOI WG uses it a lot as does the ICANN board. I recommend it. It comes into its own when there are documents to be considered and having the chat function can save time. Of course, one does need to be at the computer to take advantage of it! Gabi & Kristina are excellent manipulators of it too:-) Cheers, Chris On 26 Apr 2012, at 18:36, Kristina Nordstrom <kristina.nordstrom@icann.org> wrote:

Good morning, Kristina and Councilors: I use Adobe Connect for ALAC calls and other working groups. I find the Adobe features valuable for the following reasons: 1) The chat feature enables conversations between individual participants (private) or any individual and everyone (sharing an on-topic opinion or experience), without using mic time or slowing the verbal dialog. 2) There is a clear indication of all meeting participants and the useful ability to "raise a virtual hand" enabling the Chair to more easily manage the meeting without intrusive verbal requests for attention. 3) The ability to display documents under discussion in real time, along with the ability to use graphics and PowerPoint presentations is extremely valuable. 4) Separate panels are used to display an agenda and/or running transcript or meeting notes, as well as translation transcripts. It is also possible to post real-time links to any URL. 5) The visual voting (or agree, disagree) features have proven valuable in certain circumstances. 6) The system can be used with a telephone connection (where preferable), but also with two way audio without the use of a telephone connection. I have no experience using Adobe Connect in a mobile situation. Best regards, Ron Sherwood On Thu, Apr 26, 2012 at 3:35 AM, Kristina Nordstrom < kristina.nordstrom@icann.org> wrote:

2) There is a clear indication of all meeting participants and the useful ability to "raise a virtual hand" enabling the Chair to more easily manage the meeting without intrusive verbal requests for attention.
"Raise-Hand", "Agree" and other buttons keep a clear and transparent speaking sequence, which is very helpful for meeting organization and particularly value to facilitate the participation of non-English and shy colleagues. Much better than yielding at the phone (sorry to say so). Adobe Connect is a fantastic asset and a great tool for helping the chair of the meeting as well - for example, WG members raise their hands, and Adobe places them in an ordered queue for speaking rights. And just this week, I was unable to dial into another Study Group call - the hotel I was in in Geneva had very expensive local dialling to "0800" - so used Adobe Connect, and the sound quality was perfect. And its ideal for "drafting on the fly" which occassionally is a requirement for FOIWG. And with reviewing a document within it, it ensures all are reading the same document, not an earlier version etc. I'd like to see it used for Council as well... Adobe Connect has worked very productively for the FoIWG where we have needed to share many documents and provide details comments on the same, sentence by sentence. I think it would work well for the Council too for similar purposes. However, the requirement to be online and be on your computer may require that it be used on the Council always with the support of the normal telephone dial-in.
