The ICANN Pandemic Internet Access Reimbursement Program aims to facilitate the active participation in ICANN Public Meetings Meeting for certain community members with limited Internet capacity by offering financial assistance to increase their Internet bandwidth during the meeting. NEW: ICANN Announces NextGen@ICANN74 Participants ICANN has announced the individuals selected to participate in the NextGen@ICANN Program at the ICANN74 Policy Forum. An independent committee selected the NextGen@ICANN74 participants based on their current studies and interest in Internet governance. The 12 selectees attend universities in the European region where they study law, economics, and international relations. Read more. Registration for ICANN74 Policy Forum in The Hague, Netherlands is Now Open Registration for ICANN74 (13-16 June 2022) in The Hague, Netherlands is now open. ICANN74 will take place as a hybrid event to accommodate both in-person and virtual participation. While the ICANN74 Policy Forum presents the first opportunity for the community to come together in more than two years, the health and safety of all community members and staff continues to be ICANN's key priority. Information Sharing NEW: ICANN is Developing a Process for Evaluating DSFI-TSG Recommendations The Office of the Chief Technology Officer (OCTO) is leading the ICANN organization's (org) efforts to develop a process for the potential implementation of proposals from the Domain Name System Security Facilitation Initiative Technical Study Group (DSFI-TSG). This is one of ICANN President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Göran Marby's goals for Fiscal Year 2022. Read more. NEW: ICANN to Contribute US$1 Million to the Emergency Telecommunications Cluster ICANN has selected the Emergency Telecommunications Cluster (ETC) as the recipient of ICANN's US$1 million emergency financial support for continued Internet access in Ukraine. NEW: Preview of the ICANN SO and AC Chairs Roundtable Meeting The chairs of the ICANN Supporting Organizations (SOs) and Advisory Committees (ACs) will hold a two-day roundtable meeting next week in Los Angeles. The Roundtable Meeting convenes the chairs of each SO and AC, ICANN organization (org) executives, and the ICANN Board chair and vice chair to discuss planning, governance, and other topics of collective interest. Originally planned as half-day, in-person sessions held immediately before an ICANN Public Meeting, the roundtable evolved to virtual sessions during the COVID-19 pandemic. Read more. NEW: Supporting ICANN Community Progress: The Issue of Closed Generics There are many topics and questions that must be addressed and answered as we move toward a next round of generic top-level domains (gTLDs). One of these topics is closed generics. As noted in the Subsequent Procedures Policy Development Process Working Group (SubPro PDP WG) Final Report, a closed generic is "a TLD representing a string that is a generic name or term under which domains are registered and usable exclusively by the registry operator or its affiliates." Read more. REMINDER: ICANN Launches the 2022 LAC Domain Names Week ICANN is pleased to announce that registration is now open for the Latin American and Caribbean event, "LAC Domain Names Week." This three-day event will be held entirely virtually from Tuesday to Thursday, 26 - 28 April 2022, starting each day at 14:00 UTC. Its theme this year is "Shaping the Future of a Secure and Resilient DNS." To register for this event please click here. REMINDER: Request for Input - GNSO Statement of Interest The GNSO Council has recently embarked on a review of its Statement of Interest (SOI) requirements to determine whether these are still fit for purpose, and if not, what updates should be considered. To this end, the GNSO SOI Task Force (TF) was formed. As part of its assignment, the TF is reaching out to the ICANN community to solicit input on the current use and experience with SOIs as well as suggestions for possible improvements. We understand that some of you may use the SOI, either in its current form or a modified format, for your own purposes. We would be interested to hear about those experiences as well as any lessons learned that may help inform our recommendations. You are encouraged to share this information with your respective groups. To provide input, please complete the following survey by Wednesday, 4 May. Your input will be much appreciated!
