Resignation from ccNSO council
Dear Katrina & Councillors, As you are well aware, my contribution to the Council & its structures has been quite below par for at least the last year due to unabating work commitments on my part. As much as I was hoping something will give & I can return to more active participation in the Council, things continue to look difficult for me. Accordingly, after 2.5 terms as a ccNSO Councillor for Africa, I would like to resign from the Council so that another candidate from Africa can make a contribution to the well-being of the ccTLD community through the Council. I am not sure how you want us to handle this leading to the next elections, but if it¹s not causing any problems to the Council, I would like my resignation to be immediate. Having said that, I wish the Council all the best. In you we have a bunch of hard-working & knowledgeable councillors who are making sure the interests of the ccTLD community are well advocated and respected. Barring any Divine Intervention to the contrary, you will still be seeing me in ICANN meetings. Regards, Vika Mpisane | ZADNA | +27 11 314 0077 ext. 602
Katrina, Please note the resignation includes resignation from all current Workings Groups and/or sub-committees. Dear Vika, Sorry to hear that but I understand your decision. Let me thank you for your years long contribution to the work of the ccNSO. I will always remember the excellent 10 years anniversary of the ccNSO we celebrated in Durban - as the chair of the organising committee you took care of everything, warmly welcomed us and ensured great atmosphere at the event :) Thank you very much for everything, Vika! I hope we will keep seeing you at our meetings despite the heavy workload. Definitely hope to see you in India! Dear Chairperson, I join you in thanking Vika for all his contributions to the cc community and hope that he will continue engaging with the community. It good for him to have noted his inactiveness and thereby decide to give an opportunity to another member of the community. As for the process to replace Vika, I don’t think this is the first time this situation is happening. We can therefore learn from the past experience but even what you have suggested, for me, is a good option. rgds ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Eng. I think that, subject to the by-laws permitting (and I will check this later today) that this is entirely the most sensible option. Indeed, in our tiny island Parliament, this is the procedure laid down in law -- if a Member resigned less that six months from the Ordinary (general) election, his or her seat remains vacant until that scheduled election. But in any event, I take it that Vika has not actually resigned 'with immediate effect' but has written to tell us he would like to do so. (Only a lawyer would write something like this . . . ;-). Accordingly, even if the By-Laws require an immediate by-election, all Vika has to do is wait for a couple of months before giving Council his formal notice . . . I support Katrina's proposal --we have more than enough on our collective plate at the moment, and if we can roll the election for Vika's successor into the next election cycle, so much the better. However, I submit that "respect for the process", as it is currently defined, trumps convenience in my view. We can't "make it up" as we go along. I confess I don't have the specifics on the process in front of me (hello Nigel? have you looked into this yet?). One way forward to prevent us from having to schedule a special election would be to acknowledge Vika's stepping aside from active participation in ccNSO Council activities (consider it a "leave of absence for personal reasons" or something along those lines), and then have him schedule his formal resignation within the window so we don't have to burden ourselves and our Secretariat with a special election? Dear Vika,
Sorry to hear that but I understand your decision. Let me thank you for your years long contribution to the work of the ccNSO. I will always remember the excellent 10 years anniversary of the ccNSO we celebrated in Durban – as the chair of the organising committee you took care of everything, warmly welcomed us and ensured great atmosphere at the event JThank you very much for everything, Vika!
I hope we will keep seeing you at our meetings despite the heavy workload. Definitely hope to see you in India!
As for the extraordinary election, I suggest that we align it with the general Council election we will launch this autumn. Are there any objections from the Councillors?
Kindest regards,

Dear Katrina & Councillors,
As you are well aware, my contribution to the Council & its structures has been quite below par for at least the last year due to unabating work commitments on my part.
I am not sure how you want us to handle this leading to the next elections, but if it’s not causing any problems to the Council, I would like my resignation to be immediate.
Having said that, I wish the Council all the best. In you we have a bunch of hard-working & knowledgeable councillors who are making sure the interests of the ccTLD community are well advocated and respected. Barring any Divine Intervention to the contrary, you will still be seeing me in ICANN meetings.

Best, /Stephen

I think that, subject to the by-laws permitting (and I will check this later today) that this is entirely the most sensible option.
Indeed, in our tiny island Parliament, this is the procedure laid down in law -- if a Member resigned less that six months from the Ordinary (general) election, his or her seat remains vacant until that scheduled election.
But in any event, I take it that Vika has not actually resigned 'with immediate effect' but has written to tell us he would like to do so.
(Only a lawyer would write something like this . . . ;-).
Accordingly, even if the By-Laws require an immediate by-election, all Vika has to do is wait for a couple of months before giving Council his formal notice . . .
