Reminder next steps regarding your ccNSO involvement

Hi Nicklas, I hope this finds you well! This is to let you know that your former employer does not object to you taking on a role as ccNSO Councillor, in your private capacity. In the meanwhile, do you have any news regarding your support by a ccTLD manager to continue your involvement in the ccNSO working groups and committees? As mentioned previously, should you decide to take your seat on the Council in March, it is expected that you inform at your earliest convenience the European ccNSO membership about your change in affiliation. Could you please send me the text, so I can forward it to the Emissaries from the European region, and at the same time seek their support or non-objection for you to take a seat on Council in a private capacity. Joint session GAC & ccNSO - Seattle

Dear All Happy New Year 2025! Taking into account what Ian and Sean have exchanged regarding topics of mutual interest, and wishing to make the most out of the 90 minutes that we have, here is the agenda proposal: - 30 min - *Policy Gap Analysis*. Usual methodology. Presentation and questions from the audience. - 60 min - *Engagement session ("ccTLD Models")*. Interactive part, where there would be 3 or 4 corners with ccTLD members of the most representative ccTLD models, having the attendees choose which corner they are interested in learning more about and stay there for 10-15 minutes (approx.). At the end of the round, there will be an announcement to change corners and so on for the next rounds. A "Speed dating" methodology. The main objective would be to address the need to learn about different ccTLD models and to encourage networking between GAC and ccNSO members. Hello Carl, Many thanks for your e-mail. This change in affiliation has several implications, and the Council leadership team and Secretariat seek your guidance. Nicklas has actively participated in various ccNSO working groups and committees, even assuming leadership roles, such as Vice Chair of the Tech WG and TLD-OPS. Furthermore, while representing .se, he was recently elected by ccNSO members from the European region as a ccNSO Council member, with his term set to begin at the conclusion of the ICANN82 Community Forum in March 2025. The Council leadership team seeks guidance from the Swedish Internet Foundation, Nicklas's former employer. Specifically, we seek to understand if the .se ccTLD Manager has any concerns or formal objections should Nicklas intend to assume his role on the ccNSO Council in a private capacity. As outlined in the relevant ccNSO Guideline, (section 3.1)<https://ccnso.icann.org/sites/default/files/field-attached/guideline-ccnso-…> : “A Councillor can be any individual nominated, seconded, and elected as described in this Guideline. Individuals are elected in their personal capacity and serve the ccTLD community. Councillors do not represent the views and interests of their employers.” Should Nicklas decide to take his seat on the Council in March, it is expected that he, as a Council member elected by the European region, informs the European ccNSO membership about his change in affiliation. Additionally, the ccNSO Secretariat will consult with the ccNSO members from the European region to confirm their continued support for Nicklas as their Council representative. This process aligns with the ccNSO Guideline and past practices when Council members have left their employers (ccTLD managers) or changed ccTLD affiliations during their term. Finally, with Nicklas no longer representing .se, do you foresee that other members from your team will be actively involved in ccNSO-related matters in future? I wrote that primarily to Becky Burr, whom I’ve known for 20 years or so, and who has always been a champion of the ccTLD Community and whom I have always have had the utmost respect for, and secondarily to Jordan Carter, who was more heavily involved in the Transition CCWG efforts than I was, although as I pointed out in my correspondence, I was there for those seminal negotiations in Santa Monica back in the day. On a lesser level, I also wrote that as an educational effort for our Council’s NomCom members, who have zero institutional knowledge and are really, at the end of the day, completely clueless. As upset as you may be, I stand by what I wrote. It’s not, in my view, within the Bylaws for the Board to continue to sit on its ass. Annex B Sections 15(a) and(b) are to me pretty clear. What the Board’s continued inaction to me also exposes a more sinister issue: The corruption (for lack of a better word) between ICANN and Jones, Day as their external counsel. Do you know who ICANN’s first hire was? It was Louis Touton. Employee #1. Where did he come from? Jones, Day. And ICANN and Jones Day have been in bed together ever since. Twenty five years on, this is not heathy to say the least. My understanding from my reliable sources is that at least one of the Board candidates who are running within the gNSO sphere to replace Becky are running (as part of their over-all platform) for the termination of Jones, Day as ICANN’s external legal counsel, as well as the termination of John Jeffery as ICANN’s internal legal counsel. Personally, if I had a vote in that SO Community, I’d be voting for one of these candidates advocating a shake up in the legal personnel representing ICANN, both externally and internally. I do not think that at this point they are serving the ICANN Community appropriately, instead building walls between the Multi-stakeholder community, which is the bedrock of ICANN, and ICANN Org., to protect the latter from the wishes of the former. To date, I have been managing to restrain some of the more upset members of the PDP-3 WG from breaking from the Council’s agreed to negotiation process with the ICANN Board. I can no longer restrain them. ICANN will likely be seeing an IRP request over the Board’s continued inaction. Additionally, it is not out of the realm of possibility that ICANN will find itself in Federal Court in Los Angeles over this issue. These WG members are both really upset with the Board’s continued inaction, and possess deep pockets to execute their frustration within the US Judicial process. Best Regards, //Stephen
