NOTES | OMC | 20 Jan 2025 1. Welcome Welcome by Jenifer Abdalmomen can only attend for 30 min. Biyi on audio only 2. Admin matters a. SOI b. Other, council workshop later this week Bart: theme is a follow-up form the council workshop at ICANN 81. Topic: ccnso working methods, and increase ccnso capacity. Direct relation of your work, with the one by Council. Invited to the workshop are council members, and leadership teams of ccnso working groups and committees. Onboarding and mentoring is important building block to improve working methods and increase capacity. Importance of your work, we will stress this during the workshop. Do you like the method? Mapping, and the related questions? The intention is to run the council workshop in a similar fashion as today’s and previous OMC meetings. 3. Review results mapping previous meeting Bart: do you recognise the points you made? No comments raised 4. Clustering of outcome initial mapping [cid:image001.png@01DB6B5D.6C90EF90] * Increase interest for (IDN) ccTLDs to participate in ccnso. Driver for participation is the participation by the ccTLD people themselves. Recognition of attendance, taking attendance, certificates etc. * Increasing the number of liaisons with other communities. Bart: I re-grouped the sticky notes into various clusters. Does this reflect the discussions? Do the clusters reflect the output of the session we had? Pablo: yes, it does. Regarding engagement marketing, and liaising with other communities in icann are particularly valuable. Shows diversity, helps to develop onboarding cases. Many ccTLDs get involved through the fellowship. Bart: how they view this as enlisting people for onboarding. You would like to see onboarding as a means to interest people or ccTLDs to enlist for onboarding? Pablo: yes, correct Bart: therefore lower half of the overview. This tries to build the concept of onboarding, what is needed and what will be the results? Wafa: have a common session with fellows. There it is useful to speak about ccnso. What can we do to interest NextGen? Bart: “how to” as a next step. We will hopefully be able to address that later today. Your suggestions will build the roadmap 5. What do you want to do? Bart: Second page of the whiteboard. What should be the major focus of your work? What do you want to do? Why? Jenifer: Improve clarity of onboarding materials, make them easily accessible, update them regularly Wafa: I would like to explain what the added value is to them for participation in the ccnso. Bart: part of showcasing the value? Wafa: yes. Wafa: Have written testimonials by participants. For engagement marketing. Have your name and your testimonial online Nicky: Who are we? What do we do? What is the benefit of participating? Wafa: We mention the liaison. We need to have a plan, an agenda for those that join the onboarding program. They can select other sessions than the ccnso one. Which WG should they attend? Have a specific program for them. Bart: what would it include? Different from general materials for regular participants? Wafa: yes Sami: increase liaisons with others. E.g. ISOC. encourage the ccnso into doing things. Making them aware of what the ccnso is doing. Bart: encourage ccTLDs to participate? Sami: also isoc etc and those active in the country. Bart: cluster interest (IDN)ccTLDs Sami: for IDNs, create more local awareness. Incentives. Can discuss more in detail Wafa: other stakeholder to join in the ccnso onboarding program? Sami: we educate the communities, to indirectly push/inflience the ccTLDs Wafa: increase more engagement Sami: the majority of the cctlds in this region are inactive. They do not respond. So we need a different approach Wafa: so we need a third party? Sami: we probably have similar experience. Even 1-1 …. Otherwise they do not bother to respond at ccTLD level Pablo: like the idea of what Jennifer said by improving the onboarding materials. Also liked what Nicky said. Once you have those materials you can come to the ccTLD, and exvert pressure to isoc chapters that can reach out to the cctld operators. Bart: you support Jenifer’s approach? Pablo: yes. [cid:image002.png@01DB6B5D.6C90EF90] 6. How would you do that? What would it take to do that? What are your suggestions to improve the quality of the materials? Bart: laudable goal, but rather vague Wafa: improve the future of the ccnso. They need to know how to keep the sustainability of the ccNSO. Financial participation is important. Why is it important? Bring all these matters to the materials Sami: similar to what Wafa mentioned. Being active in the ccNSO for the cctld and the country. Pride in the idn use and support. We need to work on the material that we have. Show the engagement and the benefits. Marketing needed. More outward attractive Nicky: overlapping suggestions. Also look at the accessibility. Find things in a simple process and on simple terms. Bart: huge hope for the new website Pablo: while we develop the materials, keep in mind the diversity. One size does not fit all. Bart: what would be helpful/necessary, is to do research, before you develop the materials? Review matters? Pablo: yes Bart: enhance communication materials Jenifer: platform for experienced members to help navigate newcomers. Tips. or FAQ Create recognition for those that contribute. Develop guidelines to make it clear. Bart: community driven? Jenifer: yes Biyi: make it more targeted. Involve the ccnso members in bringing people onboard that could take over from them. Involve cctlds that are already involve. They could nominate people to be mentored. And then tailor the materials. To build on what pablo said earlier. Survey of the audience. Biyi: there needs to be more engagement of the RO’s. regional level. We started with AFTLD. We try to expand further. International outreach at regional level. 7. Next Steps: Roadmap onboarding and priorities Bart: For the next meeting, Bart will summarise the discussions from today. As a next step, Bart will prepare a draft roadmap for onboarding. Was this way of brainstorming valuable? Positive experience? No comments or concerns raised. 8. AOB none 9. Next meeting: 3 February 2025 -15 UTC 17 February 2025 – 15 UTC Jenifer: thank you all.
