Council workshop ICANN 81 Results captured in a causal network Looking at the OMC charter, onboarding and mentoring as part of the activities. ICANN Learn as well. Other aspects in the graph are for other groups, including Council. Develop a shared understanding on onboarding. What does it mean to OMC? To OMC members individually? Attempt to develop the concept of onboarding. 4. Brainstorming by OMC on onboarding
What are the key issues and concerns that need to be addressed to improve ccnso onboarding within a year?
Instructions: 6 min of individual brainstorming. Use max 6 words. Use an active verb. (e.g. increase, decrease). Do not use “need, ought ….” Sami: Value addition or benefit for those that are being onboarded. Recognition for members in committee involvement. That is the issue I have with my colleagues. Bart: increase value. Recognition of what? Attending? Sami: certificate from ICANN. Many meetings happen after working hours Bart: to show to the employer. Jenifer: training materials. E.g. video tutorials. Preferable in the local language Bart: many ideas Jenifer: increase access to training materials Wafa: make the programme compelling. I never heard about the onboarding program. Bart: increase the communication about onboarding. Nicky: improve clarity of expectations. What is expected from the community? Bart: ccnso itself? Nicky: what we do within the ccNSO. Abdalmomen: encourage more ccTLDs to join ccnso work. E.g. IDN ccTLDs Bart: cctlds, or people within ccTLDs? Abdalmomen: people Jenifer: proactive assistance. Regular follow-ups, check-ins, outreach during the learning or onboarding process. Do not wait for others to contact us Nicky: huge information overload. What is happening? Who? Building a structure of where we are. To allow for easy processing of information. Bart: what needs to be improved? Info about sessions? Nicky: yes, activities, working groups, anything related to ccnso. Bart: improve ccnso-related info. Very broad. Start with WG information. Improve session info. Abdalmomen: increase number of liaisons to other communities in the icann environment Bart: to or from ccnso? Abdalmomen: from ccnso Bart: where? Abdalmomen: be better informed. E.g. liaison with UASG, liaison with GAC IDN WG. that is the idea. Wafa: newcomers need to understand how the meetings are being run. Policy forum, community forum, AGM. what is the ccnso focus for each meeting? Measure the impact of the onboarding program. Follow-up with newcomers. Have they engaged after benefiting from the program. Bart: increase or improve measurement of the onboarding program Sami: arab region perspective. I work for the government. For extra tasks, there needs to be some validation. We have a good enough support system with people and staff Jenifer: improve data gathering to identify common pain points. Enhance onboarding experience, based on real user experiences. Abdalmomen: engage more with NextGen and Fellows. Bart: increase engagement.
next step: cluster the ideas
Bart: Q for Jenifer? To drive the onboarding? Jenifer: yes. Bart: ok. Building journeys for people. Wafa: collaboration with fellowship program? Common session? Bart: action or goal? Wafa: action. Bart: once onboarded, increase communication. Sami: customer experience. Feedback after marketing. Abdalmomen: the word “marketing” confuses me. Use “promote” instead? Ccnso is not about business. Bart: marketing means more. Has many aspects. Add “take into account the specific nature of the ccnso” Abdalmomen: maybe i have an issue with the certificate for the registry. Ashamed to admit. Have more sessions on how to resolve this issue. This will increase the engagement of the cctld, from the ccnso point of view.
next steps
staff to prepare a straw dog: summary of the discussion. Where to focus on initially? Bart: I found this insightful. Especially the user journeys. We tend to forget the diversity. Jenifer: need to leave. Beneficial to new members, and others. Wafa; the onboarding program is not new. Can we have an idea about what has been done in the past? What were the issues? Bart: not done structurally to date. Results are fairly limited. Diversify the onboarding. People attend, we do the onboarding session, we help people when they attend the first time. The real newbees. Who are they? How do we get them involved? Nicky: build structure now Abdalmomen: no additional comments. [cid:image001.png@01DB4A55.0C4362E0] 5. AOB None 6.
