Dear ICANN, I’m disappointed to learn about the closed door agreement to increase fees for .com domain name registrations. This seems to fly in the face of the best interests of the internet at large. Economies of scale should dictate lots of revenue to accommodate the increased infrastructure required with a growing dns. Regards, Shawn Eaton

Dear icann, I am writing today to share my concern regarding your upcoming amendment. I own several domain names and feel that this amendment could change my ability to own these domains, thus reducing my ability to do business online. Could you please answer the following questions: - Why did you plan these changes in secret, without consulting or incorporating feedback from the ICANN community and Internet users earlier? - Why should the wholesale price for .COM domains be able to be raised for 8 out of the next 10 years? How will this unlimited increase benefit .COM owners? A possible 70% increase won’t be sustainable for small business owners, without mentioning the other unclear price increases. - How will you spend the $20 million dollars of Verisign? Who will be accountable for these funds being spent on domain infrastructure? Thank you for your time and consideration. Sincerely, Sophie

Hello, I oppose the efforts by ICANN and Verisign where Verisign pays ICANN $20 million dollars and, in return, is allowed to increase prices every single year? This looks terrible and feel worse and should be stopped. It will raise prices for consumers and businesses and act as a barrier to the growth of the economy. *Best regards,* *S. Dear sir or madam I was alerted to the issue of .com fees being raised by my provider Namecheap. I see no logical reason why domain names should be charged at any higher rate than they currently are. The amount of website addresses globally must surely mean that revenue increases yearly in any case and is a highly sustainable business model in itself. Increasing the prices is a barrier to small businesses like myself and to non-profits organisations and charities. It serves no higher purpose to charge any more for domain names and is a disservice to people who rely on websites for their livelihood. I implore you to think with logic, compassion and emotional intelligence about the effects of this change on those who use .com websites. I also urge you to reflect on the true intentions for these changes. An increase in prices cannot be to improve functionality for users because the price has no bearing on that. I am strongly opposed to the proposed price increase to .COM domains. "ICANN is a not-for-profit public-benefit corporation with participants from all over the world dedicated to keeping the Internet secure, stable and interoperable." If ICANN is supposed to operate for the public benefit then how exactly does this policy help to promote public benefit when a major multi-billion dollar corporation is solely benefited? There is no financial justification to raise the price, it's the upkeep of a simple database the price increase is simply because they can as proven advancements in technology are driving the cost of operating a registry down, yet domain prices keep going up for registrants. Verisign is merely the manager, not the owner, of the .COM Registry. It is allowed to operate the extension by contract and should have no role in setting the price. There is no "public benefit" justification to these changes. It is simply a handout to a company with a de facto monopoly at the expense of registrants. This is on the heels of the .ORG contract debacle where ICANN ignored the overwhelming public sentiment against it, and moved forward in removing price caps. Now we also have the pending .ORG sale to a private equity company which involves several former ICANN leaders and connected parties. This deal is currently being investigated by the California Attorney General. ICANN is facing a crisis in credibility. Is ICANN actually working in the public interest or not? I have seen some reports that claim that ICANN is pocketing $20 million dollars over 5 years from Verisign as a part of this deal, in most sectors of business this is called bribery and should violate most code of ethics policies, regardless of how it's being branded as a support for ICANN's future initiatives because there is no specifics around how the money must be spent. I would be ok with this if I 100% knew it wasn't ending up in personal pockets. Thanks, Darrel S

I disagree strongly with the Proposed Amendment 3 to the .COM Registry Agreement and believe there should not be a price increase. There is absolutely no need for it! The price freeze in Amendment 35 of the Cooperative Agreement was put in place for good reason - please honour this, or leave and let decision makers who can, take over.

I use the Internet but I am not a .com registrant. I am against the proposed price increase to .COM domains. No one other than Verisign want increases in .COM prices. The current rate of $7.85 is already far more than justified. Verisign is merely your manager of the .COM Registry – it has no business dictating the price. ICANN is supposed to govern the domain name system in the public interest. The increase can seriously hurt our business. We are based in a third world country where the the minimum wage is 100 dollars per month. Please take our buying power in your consideration.
