Do not negotiate the contract to allow verisign to increase prices of .com domains. The registry should not be used as a income generator but a public service to maintain a free(low barrier) and open internet. If the price increasing is allowed this will be just like big pharma raising prices drastically on drugs for the sake of proffits and all else be dammed.

To whom it may concern, As a business owner, and domain registrant since 1995, I support not only the proposed price increases, but would in fact encourage a significantly larger increase and much more rapidly - to the extent of an order of magnitude increase. I feel this would give large and immediate gains for the entire Internet and directly address some issues the DNS is seeing (and part of the reason for the proposal) by drastically reducing the load as superfluous registrations would be dropped, and likely the additional funding would more than offset such a drop in the load. Dear ICANN: I am writing to voice my strong opposition to the proposed contract with VeriSign in which .COM domains will be treated and priced differently. As a small business, I rely on my website (which has a .com domain) to attract customers. This deal will threaten the use of the Web for many small businesses like mine, who will risk being priced out of operating a website. I urge you to reconsider this most unfortunate proposal. It seems these increases will cripple a lot of new .coms and stop the growth of the business which is needed to have strong economies. I for one am against these increases. It is hard enough to get started in this time and age with all the increase and regulations put forth by the so-called regulators and policy elites.
