If changes are made which will see an increase in cost of the .com domain, I will have to move my 6 websites to different domains as I will not be able to afford any increase in prices of the domains for my website (four are for non-profits and 2 are small businesses). Will there be any assurances that the cost of the .com domains will not be increased drastically?

Dears, According to this new agreement, Verisign will be allowed to increase the wholesale price to registrars for .COM domains every year for 8 out of the next 10 years, and the increases dont stop there. This will mean that .COM wholesale domain prices can grow by more than 70% over and above current prices over the next decade. The contract also allows for other price increases, which could drive prices up further, ultimately making .COM domains less accessible and more expensive for everybody. Alongside these contract changes, Verisign agreed to pay ICANN an additional $20 million dollars over five years to support ICANN's domain name system initiatives, without any clarity about how ICANN will spend the money, or who will ensure that the funds are properly spent on domain infrastructure. Not least, Verisign will also be able to operate as a domain registrar. In other words, the company that controls almost 80% of the registrar pricing for domain names will compete directly with all domain registrars, maximizing its control of domain name pricing. This harms competition, choice, and domain name services. I would like to know how ICANN is guaranteeing that the best economic practices are adopted and that consumers interests are protected. Dear Sirs: I oppose the proposed amendment to the .COM registry agreement. This agreement will effectively increase the costs of the public access to internet domains without any input from the public. This will harm numerous small internet businesses and restrict economic activity. The proposed agreement does not even specify how the additional money would be used to benefit public access to internet domains. Business agreements make in secret that affect the general public should have public input to allow for the full impact of the decisions to be discussed. Special "deals" that benefit only a few should not be permitted. Suspend this rule until the public has an adequate chance to assess the impact and suggest changes. J Keen

I am a registrant of a .com domain name. I am against the proposed price increase to .COM domains. No one other than Verisign want increases in .COM prices. The current rate of $7.85 is already far more than justified. Verisign is merely your manager of the .COM Registry – it has no business dictating the price. I am a registrant of a .com domain name. I am against the proposed price increase to .COM domains. No one other than Verisign want increases in .COM prices. The current rate of $7.85 is already far more than justified. Verisign is merely your manager of the .COM Registry – it has no business dictating the price. ICANN is supposed to govern the domain name system in the public interest. If Somehow this amendment comes to life countless domains will seized to exist and it will harder to maintain a domain portfolio for those who does business by selling domains alike. Verisign is the only registry for .COM domains without any competitor, no one but them will be benefited from this amendment. The current rate of $7.85 is already far more than justified. Website domains are like real estate, the popular areas are expensive. But please don't raise the price of every .com available across the country. While it may benefit you in the short term it will not benefit small businesses which are the entities constantly making America the great country we are. You have the choice. Hi, .com is used by people across the globe, the current price itself high for many people in developing and under developed countries. Not to forget, Icann is for the public good of every human being in the world to access the internet for betterment and the price increase severally hamper the reach of internet to people in poor countries, who need internet more for their betterment.
