Hello, I am a small business owner and I am opposing the .com price increases to domain names. Internet presence should be accessible to all, not just the rich. Having escalating prices to keep my internet presence would greatly affect me. Having higher prices will cut out the smaller business folks. Sincerely, Ms Moore

Simply changing your terms with Verisign in secret thus giving them even more power to control the domain market is shady. I say this because you essentially give them free will to increase .com pricing for the next 8 of 10 years. There’s no incentive for them not to try to get as much out of them as they can? Why, well because first this deters people from squatting on domains. Why do people squat? Well like me maybe they had an idea but just haven’t had the time to put it to use. Perhaps they think it’s a cash cow? However, in reality it just means it opens verisign up to more of the gray practices. Like the registrar reserving “popular” names and charging premiums. However, this is all 100% contradictory to the internet. The internet is supposed to be an open global economy. Where anyone and everyone is essentially on an equal playing field. Just like net neutrality, giving registrars more Ways to turn the screws means that’s just what they will do. They will see this as a business opportunity and milk their customer (all .com owners) for more and more money. I know our global DNS infrastructure is complex and expensive. However as everyone gets more greedy with time the quality of the internet and the openness it once represented continue to vanish. Everyone wants to push people to paid services. When they can’t they just do this, increase the fees they can. What is ICANN going to do with this money? How is this contribution from .com going to solve any problems that charging hundreds of thousands to make your own TLD and then registry fees from? This is two companies trying to do a symbiotic cash grab and going after the largest cash cow of all... .com. Why not impose a flat fee first like we did with .net? I’ll gladly drop all of my personal .com’s in favor of a number of other TLDs. I’m sure many more would too. How does that help improve anything? — Thanks, Brandon

To whom it may concern, I own and operate a small business and living in Vancouver one of the most expensive cities in the world makes making ends meet extremely difficult. If raising the cost of domains is added to the struggle then I foresee this having detrimental effects on me and many small businesses. Please reconsider this or at least think about all of us who could be taken down by such a large increase in costs for us. Thank you, Stefanie

Hi, This is what happens when a monopoly is in force. You never get enough. I think its time to go to congress with this greed issue. And if we can get some action from congress, it will avoid having to babysit you and prevent things like $250K without public reason. I hope you will avoid this unethical plan. The results would be catastrophic if carried out. If you do carry out this plan of increase, millions of Internet users will be forced to not only delete their ownership of tens of millions of domains but will have no choice but to fight your greed in the public arena. The approval for you to police the Internet needs to be strongly reviewed. I am in hopes that with the greed and irresponsibility you have displayed to the public behind closed doors will soon change to a responsible organization. Sincerely, Robert Ingham

There's no need to raise prices of .com exponentially as propose... anything more than 10 cents a year for the next 10 years is greed.

The behind closed doors deals for such a critical backbone of this world is not fair. To keep up with the spirit of an open internet, these changes needs to be discussed, debated and then implemented. please make necessary changes to make this discussion a matter of public debate.

Hi there, It would be great if you can allow transparency through discussions with the public and other sale agents regarding the purchases and worth + prices of domain names and how the system works. Discussion behind closed doors to jack the prices up of .COM domains seems an extremely money hungry strategic move (knowing they are the most common) to benefit your growth and earnings rather than the overall benefit of basically the world. It’s an age where we all rely on the internet, to get things done, to be heard, and also nowadays for safety and our wellbeing. Having everyone pay for that extra mile to write a .COM in what is basically their house/home on the World Wide Web is ridiculous. What if an elderly only remembers websites to have .COM but a business/organisation had to change it due to costs, and they suffer a negative effect from that? I can keep going on with scenarios but let’s not waste time. Let it be discussed not just implemented. It effects the bigger picture for many individuals more than you realise. Stop the $$ sign eyes and ignorance. I’m sure a public forum and also a smaller one with privatised wholesalers can ensure a much more agreeable terms. Thank you. Elaine
