The cost of registering .com domain names needs to remain affordable for all or the internet loses its ability to meet its purpose to be accessible by all. The cost of maintaining the .COM registry does not rise linearly as the number of registered domains increase. Therefore, increasing the cost of each individual registration at a time when Verisign is making more money on registrations than ever does not make sense. This seems like solely a goal to make investors money, rather than maintain the purpose that ICANN was created for. Shame on ICANN if this deal is allowed to go through. I appreciate your accepting comments, even though I do expect this to be handled exactly as the FCC handled their comments on net neutrality. You've likely made your decision already, but if you still have one ounce of what you stood for at creation, you wouldn't even consider this deal. KC

This change is unacceptable. Clearly crony-capitalism at its best. I believe the there should be a one time price increase to a level that will provide an acceptable profit for Verisign, and after that, there can be an annual price increase that is permanently tied to inflation. Good Evening, After reading your proposals I would like to outline the following: I am a registrant of a .com domain name. I am against the proposed price increase to .COM domains. No one other than Verisign want increases in .COM prices. The current rate of $7.85 is already far more than justified. Verisign is merely your manager of the .COM Registry – it has no business dictating the price. ICANN is supposed to govern the domain name system in the public interest which these proposals seemingly contradict. Regards, Joel Kenny

Hello. I’ve recently been made aware of the changes to the ICANN contract with Verisign and wanted to express my concern for the fact that .com domain registration will be allowed to increase over the next decade and that a large cash payment will be made by Verisign to ICANN. This type of influence from companies like Verisign can be at the expense of individual consumers like myself, who have limited resources but need access to affordable domains to build small businesses. Please reconsider lifting the existing price caps on .com registration. Thanks.

To whom it may concern Everyone on the Internet will be touched by these changes, so as users of the internet we do not want this. Verisign’s registrar could use its dominant position to charge higher prices to consumers, while at the same time raising registrar prices. Fewer registrars will harm competition, choice, and domain name services Verisign agreed to pay ICANN an additional $20 million dollars over five years to support ICANN’s initiatives. What is the reason for the proposed price increases for .COM registrations? Given that Internet domain names are utilities it is not appropriate for profit to be the sole motivation. If there are legitimate costs that are not presently covered by existing registration pricing structure then such should be disclosed to the community and handled appropriately. Companies are welcome to charge market rates for commodity services - but as trustees of public utilities ICANN and any affiliates have a moral obligation to avoid burdens on the basic services of the Internet. How is it possible that ICANN are making deals that affect the whole internet without the opinion of the community ? They only want money and they are decreasing the access to the internet to the whole world doing an increase of that size. It is outrageous, I’m totally against it Pablo
