I am a registrant of a .com domain name. I am against the proposed price increase to .COM domains. No one other than Verisign want increases in .COM prices. The current rate of $7.85 is already far more than justified. Other registries such as .uk are much cheaper even though they benefit from less economies of scale than .com Verisign is merely your manager of the .COM Registry – it has no business dictating the price. ICANN is supposed to govern the domain name system in the public interest.

To whom it should concern: I think that we deserve a better explanation as to why these annual price increases are necessary, when the cost to manage and maintenance these names is not increasing at such a rate. Annual increases provide zero incentive for us to stay with .com and registration prices are profitable enough at their current state. What will become of the lifetime registrations handed out by varying registrars?

Friends, My company, Philanthropist.com, Inc. is the registrant of a good number of .COM domain names. As a small company with only two full time employees, we are adamantly against the proposed price increase to .COM domains. We believe the current rate of $7.85 is justified, as the actual cost to Verisign to provide the expensive infrastructure and management of the registry has been estimated at between $2.50 and $2.90 per domain name per year. ICANN was created to govern the domain name system in the public interest. We do *not* believe the currently proposed price increases to .COM names is in the public interest. Other companies should be allowed to maintain .com registries who will offer less price than current verisign rate to maintain .com registries. Why there should be monopoly? Its a free world, there must be competition and others must be allowed to do the job who's price is less. I think the amendment proposed by Verisign is just an excuse to open the door for predatory, abusive increase in pricing for .com domains, by far the most popular domains on the internet. If this was really about security, they'd be trying to make this a universal amendment instead of just to whatever benefits their bottom line the most. I implore you to not let the economic interests of one company overpower the social interests of the entire internet, and to reject this amendment in order to maintain the current status of .com domains and their pricing.
