Hello, I think that the registrations of the primary domain extension of the internet should not be a "for profit" enterprise. This includes the entire supply chain of the endeavor, including the manager of the .COM registry (Verisign). Ultimately, ICANN should dictate the prices, and any 3rd parties to the process should be made to be COMPLETELY transparent to their expenses (for the purpose of providing related services) and should operate on, at most, a 10% operating margin (again, for the purpose of providing related services). Prices should be negotiated in good faith by both parties every 3 years. If Verisign does not agree to this, then I'm sure there would be MANY companies who would be willing to take their place given the sheer amount of revenue involved. A quick way to solve this problem would be for ICANN to facilitate a .COM manager selection process every 7 years, and then we'll see what prices Verisign proposes. Thank you, Tom

Sir/Madame: I would like to register my vehement opposition to the proposed amendment. I am not convinced that costs are really rising or are headed towards rising in the near future, especially in the high tech industry where the trend we have seen since the invention of the computer that costs go down not up. What exactly gets more costly on a per registration basis as the number of registered domains increase? If you need more servers, hardware costs per unit computing power are going down. If you need more coders, I don’t see why a doubling of registrations requires a doubling of coders. So what costs is it that are rising or will rise soon? I highly suspect that this amendment is an attempt by Verisign to capitalize on their a government-mandated monopoly position, and is hence an illegitimate proposal and should be turned down. Good morning, As a system administrator for a company based in Memphis, TN, I am for a free internet that allows people from all walks of life to have affordable access to domain registration. Raising the prices is not something that should be dictated by a nonprofit or an independent organization such as Verisign. This is a monopoly that cannot be allowed to exist. We saw this type of trend with telecommunications in the greater half of the 20th century and it led to exorbitant price hikes that the general public were either forced to pay or do without. Communication with other peoples is a right and that should not be limited due to financial ability. I am well aware of operating costs, but 31% seems less on the side of being mandatory and more on the side of being profitable. Be on the side of humanity, not on the side of wealthy corporations that would rob from the pockets of consumers. As we all know, businesses will offset this increase by passing the expense down to consumers through price hikes, effectively punishing the public for having little to no knowledge of the significance of this proposition. Below are my pre-defined options that were imported from the "internetcommerce.org" website; they feature a brief synopsis of my opinions on the matter. I am retired, and help small businesses get .com domain names and build small websites to help small operators get a website online. Prices have already gone up substantially and will soon out pace the ability of some small businesses to keep their websites. I have tried using some of the other cheaper priced domains such as .us and .monster and find they do not propagate across the www as they should. Perhaps that is because people with huge accounts and .com domains don't like someone using the same name with a .us or .monster domain and coerced their registrant or servers to slow down some ext. Or maybe create a new tld ext that will remain less expensive like .comm or .kom, yet they are not .com the main tld ext everybody types when they have no idea what they are looking for. 24 years ago in 1996 before ICANN and when a clear monopoly was forming, we needed iCANN. ICANN is now a loose cannon and the biggest risk to the digital asset class know as URL's. How many no bid contracts when pricing should be going down and security up. Open up the contract and see what happens? Why not, are the people making the money to scared or just in to much control they dont care? Its sad ICANN is supporting such price increases when they know opening it up will lower the prices and do it better. Oh ya, profits to Verisign and the big old white guys guys running the Gov back door contracts sponsoring Verisign. I am a registrant of a .com domain name since 1996, strongly against the proposed price increase to .COM domains, (Dont claim national security for increase as that is BS). Verisign has one of the highest margin business, why is iCANN supporting even more? Oh ya, we forgot ICANN is for the corporate company who funds them not the community as originally planned. Its just not right, then open the contract for bidding or give some of it back to the source that is providing it like Training, etc. ICANN is supposed to govern the domain name system in the public interest, not Verisign bottom line or claim national security. Do what is right and hold Verisign Accountable to keeping margins still over 60% and still over a billion in pure profit.. I am opposed to the increase in price. In order to have a url, common sense dictates that you purchase the same url in all the categories - .com, .org,.net and ones with similar spelling. So it is easy for one website - commercial, charitable, educational - to have to have pay for 9 urls a year; at an average price of $38, that's $342. To whom it may concern, I would like to repeat many of the other concerns pointed out by my fellow Dotcom owners. I am concerned about this amendment to the Registry Agreement because it will affect, not just me, buy any individual who would like their own domain name. I am sure that no corporation will object to the 28% cost increase every six years as they earn money off their domain name and paying almost any amount would probably be acceptable to them. However, there are a great deal of small businesses that would see this as a burden as well as individual users (like me) out there that have purchased their own domain name and are using it for personal use, not commercial use. I understand that it would be almost impossible to create a regulation that would charge businesses more and individuals less, however, that may be what is required at this time. This would allow for businesses to have an individual register their domain name, however, no corporation of any size will be willing to leave their domain names in private hands. This would also allow fledgling businesses (aka startups) to keep their costs low at first. Remember, many businesses have been started in individual's garages. My domain has been used primarily for personal use. Please keep the annual fee very low or consider a more flexible charging system for the .COM top level domain that will keep it accessible to individuals and small businesses. I am absolutely against raising the price of .COM domain registrations. Increasing the prices set a dangerous precedent on an industry that seems already monopolized. Protect our free speech. Protect the one outlet the world has to raise a voice. Please don't capitalism further corrupt this global network.
