Please keep the .COM TLD fair and cheap for everyone. It is not far that you are giving an monopoly to VeriSign but now you are allowing them to raise prices, not to mention that you will be getting a very large kick-back for this. This is the definition of monopoly and conspiracy. I know it does not take much to maintain a TLD and your organization only provides rules and policies with no infrastructure and little overhead costs. I am/have been/will be a registrant of a .com domain name for a non-commercial purpose. I am against the proposed price increase to .COM domains. Verisign is merely your manager of the .COM Registry – it has no business dictating the price. ICANN is supposed to govern the domain name system in the public interest. To whom it may concern, Last month, you announced significant changes to the contract it has with Verisign, Inc. who operate the .COM top-level-domain (TLD). You made these changes in secret, without consulting or incorporating feedback from the ICANN community or Internet users. You have a history of making similar deals behind closed doors, and also of ignoring unified opposition against such action. Wholesale registries charge Namecheap a set fee per domain name per year. According to this new agreement, Verisign will be allowed to increase the wholesale price to registrars for .COM domains every year for 8 out of the next 10 years, and the increases don’t stop there. This will mean that .COM wholesale domain prices can grow by more than 70% over and above current prices over the next decade. The contract also allows for other price increases, which could drive prices up further, ultimately making .COM domains less accessible and more expensive for everybody. Alongside these contract changes, Verisign agreed to pay you an additional $20 million dollars over five years to support ICANN's domain name system initiatives, without any clarity about how ICANN will spend the money, or who will ensure that the funds are properly spent on domain infrastructure. These changes will have significant impact on the Internet for years to come, and only ICANN and Verisign have participated in this decision. This is a greedy and unnecessary action that will continue and increase discrimination against small companies and start-ups trying to get a foothold in competitive industries. It is being done in bad faith. In so-doing, you are contributing to a less fair and a less equitable world in which those who have money can make much more money, while those who don't have money have a much more difficult time staying afloat and surviving. Good morning, I’m writing in opposition to the "Proposed Amendment 3 to the .COM Registry Agreement.” I understand the need to adjust one’s pricing from timer to time. It is not only reasonable, but expected. I also appreciate that an argument could be made that current prices have not kept up with costs or inflation. However, the potential increases outlined in this new agreement far exceed any semblance of reasonable increases. I know the temptation is always to “get what the market will bear” and raise prices as much as possible. That said, internet domains are not like regular, consumer products and services. While they may not be the kind of public good one first thinks of, I would argue that they are and I believe most of the internet would agree. As an entrepreneur I have a vested interest in this price increase and am opposed to it as outlined in Amendment 3. While I am not against price changes in general, I know a bad deal when I see one. - David Hudson

Good day, As a marketing professional, I believe there is great value in having a short, memorable, brand-consistent .com domain name. However, search engines are focusing more and more on content and user intent. These days, it seems that the "address bar" is becoming something understood by only the techno-elite. That's not an understatement. Most people have no idea what a URL is or where they should enter it to go to a specific location. Why does this matter to the question at hand? As much as I value the .com, it's a mere detail. It has to be priced as such. If the rates for .com go up significantly, the market will respond and abandon it in favor of other TLDs that don't cost as much. I urge you to keep .com cost competitive and therefore relevant. I read about the proposed changes to the .COM fees and allowing Verisign to act as a domain registrar. I object to the magnitude of the fee increase. I register about 70 domain names, most of which are .COM. 7%/year for the wholesale price is way too high. Given the current rate of inflation, I suggest 1% is more reasonable. The end-user price will be even higher. It may be trivial if you only register 1 or 2 domain names, but for those of use who have a large number of domain names, the increase in cost will be significant. Allowing Verisign to compete with other domain registrars is unfair on the face of it. Verisign should not be the operator of the .COM TLD and a registrar. This is unacceptable. We all know that .com's should remain the same affordable price. You are hurting the internet by making this deal. You are hurting individual freedom with this deal from the boring blogger to the small business owners. Where is this $20 million dollars going to go exactly? I can guarantee it's not going to be put back into the public domain like it belongs. If you go through with this deal your hurting the very people that built your success. Not a very smart business move if you ask me. I oppose this deal as do many others.

The recent changes to your Verisign contract without any feedback is a sad state of affairs. Allowing wholesale price increases in 8 out of 10 years is way too aggressive. This will hurt small business's such as myself as one more overhead cost that will impede risk and growth. If new ideas cost hundreds of dollars more just to set up the middle class will be squeezed out of the online marketplace. This is a bad idea and should be re-examined with actual input from users. Also whoever is involved with the Verisign deal should be examined as this feels and appears like bribery considering Verisign has paid ICANN 20million over 5 years with no clarity on why or how these funds will be spent... The internet started as an idea to bring people together, everything has a cost and it must be paid. But shady backroom deals for profit will work against your organization and the very people that the internet was intended for. Skyler Dillman

Volumes of domain sales are up, services benefit hugely from economies of scale, yet somehow you think it's ok to increase prices and quite dramatically so. Well, it's not ok! Firstly, since you are running a de-facto monopoly for .com domains, you must be fully transparent in all you actions. There is no tolerance for underhanded secret deals, so man up and share all the details. Secondly, because domain users are pretty much bound by the addresses they use, it is imperative that you show respect and do not engage in abuse of your clients' situation. No one is denying you an income, but becoming greedy will be the downfall of any organisation that engages in such practice. Hi, The url that we associate with our online presence, whether it is a personal website or a business website, represents a significant investment of time and money to develop brand recognition. In many ways it is like a phone number on steroids. While we expect there to be costs increases over time as services change, these changes should be controlled and modest, justified by an increase in expenses incurred by the service provider. The proposed changes to allow Verisign to increase the wholesale price to registrars for .COM domains by 7% each year in 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023, does not seem to be supported by an increase in expenses, but by a desire for a corporation to take advantage of the fact that many people and business are locked into a specific domain name as it represent their online identity. The fact that ICANN will receive an additional $20 million as a result of this deal which was done in secret does not help the situation. All appearances are both groups plan to take advantage of the users in their market. It's not as if we have an alternate vendor we can go to. I hope that you reconsider the changes that you are making until such time as full justification and transparency can be provided to support the need for such a change. Thank you, Keith Keffer
