I am writing regarding the proposed price increase to .COM domains. I strongly oppose this proposition by ICANN. Many people will be in my position of ill-affording such non-transparent price hikes. ICANN and its partners stand to make a lot of money through this proposal, but there is very little being said on how exactly those new funds will be spent. Also, there seems to be no cap on price increases due to take place over the next eight or ten years. The internet is a tool that affects the lives and livelihoods of many millions; one organisation should not have the power to financially punish people all over the world. If ICANN insists on going through with such price hikes, then I believe it only fair that they be completely transparent with exactly why such price hikes are necessary, and where and how these extra funds will be spent. Hi, I just want to state that I don’t necessarily disagree with a price increase, however, what I do disagree with is the amount in which the prices will "potentially" increase. I'd like to suggest a rejection of this amendment. Opening the door to a dramatic increase in the price of COM domains makes them less accessible and more expensive for everybody. These domains are the backbone of the internet and should be treated like a public resource rather than a private commodity. I believe it is ICANN's responsibility to protect the public's interest against private corporations like Verisign Inc.

I oppose the changes ICANN is wanting to make to the Verisign contract to operate the .COM domain. I believe Verisign should not be allowed to increase prices as this will hurt many smaller internet operators. Price changes like this disproportionately affect poorer people who rely on operating websites for their income. I object to the lack of oversight ICANN will provide spending additional money from Verisign. Verisign should not be allowed to operate as a domain registrar as if it does it will use its dominant position to abuse the market. To Whom It May Concern. I am against the proposed price increase to .COM domains. ICANN and Verisign is supposed to govern the domain name system in the public interest and it should not be in the business of dictating the price. Looking at the computing cloud services industry (like Amazon, dropbox, etc) prices has not gone up or have stay steady and even in some cases the prices has dropped or stayed the same price but the service offering has grown to mega offerings. To which I am asking, how is ICANN or Verisign giving us more value? This is just another form of monopoly of big business and just another type of "tax" on the small businesses and individuals. The current rate of $7.85 is already far more than justified in the light of cloud services offerings out there. If you really consider it, it is essentially one transaction(work load) per year with cloud storage. It costs nearly to nothing to store that record for a year and to process once a year. The proposed amendment appears to burden customers with increased costs with no tangible gains. As this is in effect a monopoly, prudent price controls ought to be in place for TLDs and any price increases fully justified by increases in costs or identifiable improvements in products and services. Dear Icann As a small, UK business based in the UK, I have been very grateful to deal with Namecheap due to their reasonable charges. While one appreciates that costs do rise over time and need to be passed on, down the line, the idea of a predermined series of annual inceases followed by a two year freeze does not ring true! No one has that good a crystal ball! Please do not damage the integrity or reputation of your organisation by adopting such an inflexible system of automatic charges. Ironically being ethical may raise your profile in the market place. Customer good will and loyalty could sustain your growth and bottom line much more strongly in the long term. Hi, Just a quick note to let you know that most of us internet users are against this initiative to increase the prices of .com domains for pure profit. To make the internet more open, the prices should go down rather than up. If funding is an issue, there are other ways to get donations, etc. Please don’t go ahead with this amendment. Hi there, I would like to protest ICANN's decision to allow verisign to increase the prices of .com wholesale fees / prices (however worded). I own roughly 45 domains, a sudden increase would effect my business dramatically. I'm sure I'm not alone. I can't imagine the impact it's going to have on registrars.

I am against the proposed change that will allow the .COM domains to increase for those of us who purchase through resellers like NameCheap. Verisign will be allowed to increase the wholesale price to registrars for .COM domains by 7% each year in 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023. After a two year “freeze”, Verisign can increase prices by 7% annually during 2026-2029, then another two year “freeze”. This cycle will continue, meaning that within 10 years, .COM domains could cost approximately 70% more than the current wholesale price of $7.85 — and the sky is the limit. This is a money-grab for ICANN since Verisign is agreeing to pay $20million over 5 years under this agreement. The control granted to Verisign over the .COM domain under the proposed agreement creates a near-monopoly on the .COM domain since Verisign will control 80% of the pricing for domains -- which allows Verisign to price-fix against consumers.

ICANN should be governing the domain name system in the public best interest - and allowing Verisign to dictate the price does not achieve that goal at all. Verisign seems to be the only one who wants this price increase - and their justification for why is vague at best and downright shadowy at worst. Please either prepare a more transparent proposal for why this cost increase is necessary, or keep the prices where they are or cheaper

Hi, I’d like to state that I am opposed to this amendment particularly because of the costs that you are likely to impose on many small business owners in the long term. Please keep in mind that many individuals own domain names for personal/private use and do not make a fortune out of a registered domain. I feel strongly that the proposed price increases are unacceptable. There has been no consultation. There is no clarity about what the increase in prices will be. There is the potential for .com domains to become unacceptably expensive. How will ICANN spend the Verisign money? The internet as a collective expects ICANN to uphold core values like honesty and integrity. Why not communicate before making the decision and ask for comments later? Makes little sense. Prices need to be regulated or atleast priced regionally
