I do not support amendment 3 and do not believe that such agreements promote an open, competitive free-market. But rather simply cause rates to increase for end users, serving no other purpose other than to force end users to pay more in profit to companies (verisign in this case) who are largely disengaged from the end user. How long has verisign held this monopolistic position for now? Over 20 years?

First off, it's really disappointing to hear about the shadiness associated with this new deal.. Shady business is not the kind of business I want to associate with at all. I would take on a ".anythingelse" with "NameCheap" in a heartbeat, if it meant lower costs and disassociation with a shady company. I recommend NameCheap to all of my clients, as I work with many entrepreneurs who are just starting up and already have many start up costs, without having to be concerned with higher monthly rates just to have a live space online with their own domain name. If ".coms" become too pricey, ".somethingelse" will just become the next best thing and eventually make it more acceptable to not have a ".com". Please keep things as they are! Jasmin

I wish to voice my objection to the proposed .com price increases The amount of the increase and the frequency which it can be applied over the next 10 years is unreasonable. The changes should be revised to be more in sync with inflation in general. As there is no improvement or change to the service provided, the level and frequency of increase proposed is completely unjustified. Sincerely, Evan Burford

I do not support the proposed increase in fees. They are too open ended without any proper regulation. Dot com domains make up a large percentage of all domains and I feel the proposed increases will effect smaller website owners to the point that they may have to curtail their operations or increase prices, which may result in loss of sales and income. Many websites are run by bloggers and others who run them as information only sites for the benefit of others and these increases may result in people having to shut down their sites due to cost increases. Finally, I don't think it is appropriate that these increases have been inflicted without proper industry consultation. Regards Ray Posner

ICANN has no reason to raise its fees. The fees paid now are already high and there are new domains sold every day. Raising fees on domains is a way of restricting access to the internet for poor people, working class people, and small business owners. I oppose the proposed amendment 3 to the .com registry agreement!!!!I am a registrant of a .com domain name. I am against the proposed price increase to .COM domains.No one other than Verisign want increases in .COM prices.The current rate of $7.85 is already far more than justified.Verisign is merely your manager of the .COM Registry – it has no business dictating the price.ICANN is supposed to govern the domain name system in the public interest.This proposal would cause a significant change to our economy and our be a detriment to the future generations' growth. By drastically hiking up prices, this is limiting what resources would be available online. It would not only affect the exponential evolution as a society we have achieved through the approachable sharing of information through the internet, but it also will recanvas the type of businesses online that could afford to stay online. ICANN's primary principles of operation have been described as helping preserve the operational stability of the Internet; to promote competition; to achieve broad representation of the global Internet community; and to develop policies appropriate to its mission through bottom-up, consensus-based processes. https://www.icann.org/en/about/agreements/mou-jpa/icann-mou-25nov98-en.htm To whom it may concern; I received an email from my registrar Namechaep.com in regard to the Verisign contract and I would like to say that I do not agree with it. From my research it seems that my voice will not be heard anyway by ICANN, but still felt it was important to state my views. It states on Wikipedia that ICANN “It is a nonprofit public benefit corporation organized under the California Nonprofit Public Benefit Corporation Law for charitable and public purposes." It does not appear that the contract between ICANN and Verisign.inc is for the “Public Benefit”. Increased prices will eventually paid by that very Public that you represent. It also states, “ICANN's primary principles of operation have been described as helping preserve the operational stability of the Internet; to promote competition; to achieve broad representation of the global Internet community; and to develop policies appropriate to its mission through bottom-up, consensus-based processes.” This contract also does not appear to fit ICANN’s own Philosophy. I don’t believe it will “promote competition” it seems it will put the control of the most widely used TLD .com in the hands of Verisign.inc. As far as a “bottom-up consensus-based processes” I read through many of the already posted comments and did not read one that was for the contract, which to me would mean that the contract would not go through. I can only hope that ICANN can uphold its Motto of “One World. One Internet” and do what’s best for the people that they represent rather than make decisions for the profit and interest of few. The foundation of unbridled innovation underpinning the Internet begins with the low cost of entry for the basic TLDs. While your financial models may indicate that raising domain prices will not affect business costs much, you're neglecting how the existing, very low cost of entry could be considered the one of the lowest cost barriers to entry in the history of free enterprise and free expression. Ratcheting up the fees for domains will begin to affect innovation immediately. In the long run, raising the price of a domain will stifle innovation. You may not think so but the low cost of domains allows for an infinite amount of very low budget experimenting and testing. While most of this activity goes nowhere, this still leads to ideas that do spurn innovation and business expansion. We're already treated to significantly higher costs for the so-called vanity or boutique TLDs, please don't ruin the foundation of the Internet but raising the cost of ordinary domains. Don't go down this route. The consequences will not be good for the entire planet.
