In a country like ours, this is already equivalent to a salary of about 2 to 3 days. I recently bought a name with .com If price was any higher then it was, i many others would not buy it, driving already cheap hosting services out of business. Is that what you want ? No competition ? Monopoly ?

To All Who Should Be Concerned: To you, it may seem a small thing to arbitrarily put a monetary stranglehold on the greatest economic force in the history of mankind. But to small operators like me, ICANN's ambitious .com enrichment amounts to a sequestration of opportunity for the benefit of big business and ICANN. I implore you, do not extort the lifeline of your monopoly. If you had competition that would be a different situation, but as things stand, your proposed rate hikes is a plan to enrich yourselves at the expense of millions who have .com integration in their small businesses. Dear committees of ICANN, My name is Kittanan Jamnongrit from Thailand, and I am writing the email for commenting against the change in .COM’s operator to Verisign. First of all, this decision was made between two organizations closed-door, without doing public hearing before making this change. It was unacceptable and heartbreaking when I heard this decision. Even though Verisign is one of a trustworthy organization in the industry, however this deal is more harm than good. As a .COM domain user myself, the current price point is fair and competitive. However, with this deal, we could not able to expect the price changes that would be happened within next 10 years or so. Today, many organization who would like to start new business with domain registration knew that .COM domain is the most well-known domain alias in the world, and most of people always looks for .COM domain at first when they would like to learn more about the product that just heard of. And with the competitive pricing, there is more chance that new products and service will be announced to the world. Although, the decision that the ICANN made might have goodwill, like spam protection. However, there is a brunch of ways to combat against this problem, like addressing purpose of domain registration. Finally, I would like the ICANN to be more transparent about on-going decisions, so the community will be able to discuss and suggest what is right or wrong alongside the organization. Don’t be greedy. Don’t change our domain prices! New domains are created daily with plenty of profit, there’s no need to hurt small business owners and people hosting blogs. Hosting prices are high enough and they actually provide a service. Once a domain is purchased, the service provided is complete, and the DNS handles the remainder of the work. Our politicians are doing enough to try and control our internet, don’t become the opposition.

There are millions of people in developing countries that trying to take their businesses online and every penny matters to them. I strongly object is amendment and price increase. Hello, As a small business owner, I oppose Amendment 3 as this will result in an increase in cost of .com domains over the next decade. This will stifle innovation and development especially for small, new companies. Also, there is no clarity on how ICANN plans to spend the funds that Verisign has agreed to pay. Increasing the prices for.COM domains could mean some businesses may not be able to get to the internet. I think this change is not good for the overall state of the internet community. Hi. I run a web shop in Canada. Many of my clients are small fish in the big internet sea — they need a domain for their new business, or for their organization, or for their pet project. They don't have much money, and the price of a domain can be a real detriment to their pocketbook. I don't see why the price of a domain needs to climb so quickly, or why this process is happening behind closed doors. Please reconsider your price increase agreement with Verisign. Thank you. I went thru the hassle of letting Windows have access to my Gmail account just so that I could participate in this discussion. Then, once I knew which email to sent, I disconnected. Btw, it's: comments-com-amendment-3-03jan20(a)icann.org Anyway, I didn’t want to at first, because hassle, but then I realized that if I let this hassle deter me, it means my desire for convenience scored a victory for you, because that’s what you’re hoping for, right? That the hassle of switching to other dot extensions would be too inconvenient and most of us would just pay more. It's a pretty good strategy. But, anyway, I won’t be one of the “most”, even if I could afford the increases comfortably. Instead, with every dollar increase, I will use it as impetus to increase my capacity to deal with “hassles”. See, 30% of my dot coms are just redirect domains and domains maybe I will use properly in the future. With every dollar increase, I will… minimize (as in minimalism) and get rid of some of them. Once, I’ve culled the 30% (with your encouragement), I will use further increases to… diversify to other dot extensions. Or heck, just switch everything to Facebook or Instagram. Social media is gobbling up most of the traffic anyway. Besides, smartphone screens are so small that people can’t even see if the site has a dot com, and well – considering the extremely limited character space, it’s probably prudent to go with dot extensions which forms the last bit of the website’s name. Ex. Instead of Amazon.com, it’s just Ama.zon . Minimalism applies to domains as well, don’t you think? And hassles and inconveniences can be turned into opportunities for self-betterment.

I have .com domains that are running my business assets online. I am against the proposed increase of price to .COM domains — only Verisign wants this increase, and being merely a manager of the .COM registry has no business dictating price. Given the vast volume of registrations the current rate is already far more than justified. ICANN is supposed to govern the domain name system in the public interest, not that of corporations. This is an attempt for a governing body to make an increased profit rather than use the funds properly to maintain a safe and reliable internet surfing environment. David Matlock
