This message is in response to the call for public comments on the amendments made to the .COM Registry Agreement. This is a very sneaky, unnecessary move. Not only was there zero consultation but the period to comment is too SHORT. People who own their own businesses already have enough extras to pay for. This wont effect large business, this is a direct threat to SMALL business owners. How long until you charge whatever you want, whenever you feel like it? You already own 40% of the internet domains, how much money is going to be enough??? This is a terrible idea and its GOD AWFUL customer service. Sincerely, GA

Keep the old .com prices. Am not in favor of the increase as it is an unfair move as we have contracted the old prices years ago. Had you offered the higher prices before, people would have had a chance to choose and build an alternate domain but are now locked with the dot Com TLD. Please be fair to the consumers.

Hello, I am a strong proponent of a free and open internet. Recent moves to monetize domain registry serve nothing but greed, and the world already has more than enough of that. Similar to pharmaceutical companies exploiting their monopoly-like position to massively inflate pricing of necessary goods, I worry that allowing profit driven entities to control pricing for domain registry will only serve to inflate prices with absolutely no investment in quality to justify it. Further, accepting a sizeable donation in exchange for allowing this reeks of corruption, and only serves to further undermine our collective trust in ICANN’s ability to be an effective steward of essential infrastructure. There is more to this world than profit. You are making short-sighted decisions that have the potential to be destructive and harmful. Please reassess the value of funding your initiatives vs the very real possibility that you’re needlessly harming the greatest thing about domain names—almost anyone can afford to buy one and use it to achieve awesome things. Hi - As an owner of multiple .com domains, I disagree with the direction ICANN is taking with Verisign. Ultimately, my disagreement centers around two points: 1. Verisign should *not* be able to operate as its own Domain Registrar - Even though Verisign will not be able to sell .com domains directly, should Verisign choose to partner with a specific registrar, that partner would get preferential pricing/treatment - As the controller of .com domain prices, Verisign should not be anywhere near the market of selling these domain names 2. The rate of price increases far exceed standard inflation rates. There's really no reason to increase the price of a digital good. Since any operating costs of Verisign to operate the .com domains may increase along with inflation, I don't see why the 7% annual rate is the chosen number. This is not to mention that, as technology improves, one would expect operating costs of Verisign to decrease as well I hope that ICANN will not ignore my comments to this proposed amendment. >From the outsider, this looks like collusion between ICANN and Verisign. Verisign is getting preferential treatment and additional freedoms in exchange for a one time payment of $20M. Thanks, -- Hac Phan

For the record, I would like to state my objection for amendment 3 due the following reasons: 1. 7% yearly increase does NOT align with adjustment to cost due to inflation 2. private for-profit company should not be in charge of pricing changes for public services such as the .com domain name registration While I fully support community-initiated and approved cost based price adjustment, however, I cannot agree to the current amendment 3. Hello, As an artist working as a business, I rely on the internet so much for my work. I really need to keep the fees low, as customers always expect a competitive rate for prices on my work and products. Increasing the domain/ICANN fees, means my prices will have to go up. The price increase will seriously turn off my customers and clients. All the time the customers are being asked to pay more and have more responsibilities. This puts a lot of stress on the economy and individuals, making the world more hostile. I want to make sure my services and products are available to as many people as possible. Hi The new proposition looks like missed the "bottom up" principle of ICANN, it comes from nowhere while may bring significant change in the pricing of .COM domains. The only beneficiary of such an agreement is “Verisign” - a commercial company. If there are any need of money for improving some parts of the internet like DNS, it can be discussed publicly first, with the broad community.
