Allow businesses to continue to be empowered by knowing that domain purchases are reasonable and not fueled by greed! I am a registrant of a .com domain name. As a long time owner of a modest number of COM domains, I wish to voice my outrage at the deal struck behind closed doors that would allow Versign to unilaterally raise fees for COM domains. COM domains are essentially a public utility and secret deals violate an implied public trust. Moreover, the opportunity for profit by capricious price increases over customers held hostage due to established business is grossly unfair. Would it be ok for a city government to allow a commercial vendor a monopoly on managing the physical locations for customers to shop, and for businesses to receive mail, and then to give that monopoly vendor the right to escalate fees by more than 70% in 10 years? I strongly urge reconsideration and renegotiation of this deal. Robert Langer

Hello, I think that while allowing increases of 7% may sound modest it is already very cost prohibitive to own a domain. I believe that the current pricing is fine and I am sure the CEO's or higher-ups could take a pay cut just pay everyone more and not worry about increasing profits for once. Your profits are fine. I currently register several .com domain names. I oppose the proposed price increase for .COM domains as being unjustified, monopolistic extortion. ICANN is supposed to govern the domain name system in the public interest. The Internet registries should not be managed as cash cows for exploitation. ICANN should negotiate in public. To Whom it May Concern: To allow a single organization such control over domain names is like a monopoly. Then to tell them they can increase our rates up to 70% in the next decade just because they gave you money is crazy. There are people out there still paying $40-50/yr for a domain name the way it is. Don't allow those people to have to pay $68-$85/yr for the same services. There are plenty of mom and pop shops out there that count every penny that they spend just to stay a float. There is no reason for a consistent increase in the price of domain names in an age of decreasing hardware costs. Please find a different way to increase revenue, possibly through more domain registrations, but not by increasing the costs of each one. -Eric Norlie

Dear Sir, I am a small entrepreneur and I own few domain names with .com, .org, .info, .biz and other. The truth is that my "brand" domains are only three and the only top level domain I truly care about is .com. But I don't own just three domains I had to own many other combinations of tld. and hyphenated version of my "brands" to fight dns scams... That is the reality of nowadays internet. I am certain that your effort to remove price caps is for nothing else but a greedy deal with Verizon BUT even if you try to argument that the reason for raising prices is exactly to tackle the problem with dns speculators - you are wrong. No matter how high the price for a domain will go, there will be always speculators holding as a hostage any brand-able names trying to resell it for an absurd amount of money. Also there will be always a crook attempting of dns scam using a very similar domain to lure visitors from proper domains (e.g. mymail.com vs my-mail.com vs mymail.biz etc.). So every buyer of a new domain name will have to protect himself buy buying out a bulk of otherwise useless domains to just avoid all of these problems. At the end the only one able to fight on this battlefield will be big companies - it is already almost impossible to came up with some free distinguishable name for a domain name - the internet is over saturated and new business are starting each day. Maybe that is the reason why I already decided to move my brands to .xyz but .com is overwhelmingly dominant as of now and will be for some time still. Your move to remove price caps will hurt only little people like me - I am not worry that google, microsoft, facebook and any other big name will have an issue to pay whatever price for... well whatever. -- Best regards / S pozdravem *Petr Ospalý*

I just heard about the potential increases in the deal between icann and Verisgn for .com domains. I want to tell you how unfair this is to those of us who have .com domains for our businesses. Small businesses struggle as it it, and these increases will force me to give up my .com domains. I cannot afford to pay more. Some of my domains are 10 years old, but if I can't afford to renew them at the increased costs (scheduled over the next 8 out of 10 years!), then I will have no choice but to give them up. This is not right, and it certainly is not fair. Please don't do this increasing of the costs for .com domains. Consider the negative impact this is going to have on everyone on the internet. As a result, I maintain a .com website that I can use to display my skill set to prospective employers.I am also a volunteer for a non-profit organization that depends on a .com domain to connect with volunteers, supporters, and donors.Increases to .com domain prices can negatively impact individuals like myself, independent contractors, small businesses, and non-profits who need to carefully monitor budgets and expenses.Increasing .com domain prices annually smacks of the same tactics used by the pharmaceutical industry, whose annual price increases have led medication prices to increase by vast margins, pricing patients with fewer resources out of products they need.For many small businesses, individuals, and non-profits, changing their domain from .com to another option in an attempt to save money simply is not feasible due to public perceptions of certain as alternates, the public's lack of familiarity with other options, and the vast number of users competing for domain names, as well as the added costs and complexities of switching and redirects.While .com price increases may be necessary at times, these increases must be rational, reasonable, and transparent. The internet is a public utility, and should remain affordable to all. This includes domain extensions necessary to facilitate business, non-profit, and professional ventures.
