I find the upcoming changes in the new deal between Verisign and ICANN is wrong. Important big decisions like this which will affect millions of internet users should not be down to only two companies to decide. The internet consumers, both users and the industry as a whole should be listened to in big important deals like this. In many countries there are competition rules that wouldn't allow near monopolies like this being created. Please listen and respect the rest of us users and keep important deals like this transparent and open for inputs from all users of the net. We are one world. Lets work together and. Lets not let greed rule. As a small business owner owning a .com domain, a price increase will severely restrict my ability to pay for the domain, and will surely result in millions of small businesses being unable to have a web presence. As for me, I know that I'll have to discontinue my domain if the prices increase. I am firmly against this deal between ICANN and Verisign. Regards, Adarsha Joisa

Dear Sir/Madame. I just read about the agreement between Verisgn and ICANN to increase the price of the .com domain name extension, and wish to appeal to you not to do this. There are very many small e-commerce businesses already struggling to be profitable in our business endeavors. Increasing the price of the .com domain name extension will make it even more difficult for us to remain profitable. It is already difficult enough to even find a good .com domain that fits a company’s branding. This price increase will further hurt all, except large companies that have plenty of cash on hand at any given time. Is this the plan? To force all small businesses out of the market so that only the big, rich popular brands can take part in gaining profits through internet business? Best regards. Tony S. Proposed Amendment 3 to the .COM registry agreement suffers from a horrible lack of transparency and accountability, and should not have been negotiated by ICANN and Verisign without input from the ICANN community. Don't raise the prices. You may not be able to stop decentralization of the internet, but your move is speeding up efforts to eliminate the need for a centralized system in the first place. It won't take much to eliminate the need as with just a few major parties on board good-bye domain names.

Are you kidding me. Don't you remember when they were the only game in town for domain names and gouged everyone at every opportunity to do dirty underhanded tricks to maintain a monopoly. The list is almost too long to write out and yet here you are giving the foxes control of the chicken coop again. This is just another example of what unbridled greed can accomplish when there are folks who are vulnerable to being bribed, i.e. ICANN. All this is going to do is make people who are already rich beyond understanding richer at the expense of anyone else to has a web site. The Internet is, in many ways, a public good, developed using public money, and is now the public forum for debates, discussion, and commerce. Owning a .com URL is tantamount to being able to afford a storefront. The plans to allow Verisign, a company who's net margin is twice Facebook's or Google's, and who have a monopoly on issuing these domains, to raise the price to whatever they want, would be to allow Verisign to extort the entire world. If Verisign could not cover their costs and needed to raise their rates, that would be one thing. But to be more profitable per dollar of revenue than some of the largest, most prominent technology companies in the world tells me that this is just greedy. Hello, I'm writing to urge you to abandon the plan to allow Verisign to increase the price of .com domains to registrars. This will only serve to make registering domains more cost prohibitive, without justification. The opacity of ICANN's deal with Versign that led to this proposal is especially troubling, as is ICANN's history of ignoring public opposition to its decisions. I've only registered a handful of domains in my life, but I'm vehemently opposed to this change on principle. I urge you to reconsider it. Sincerely, Neil Donnelly

Why is it that it is only Verisign that wants increase .COM prices. The current rate of $7.85 is already far more than justified. Their cost is something in the order of under 25c a domain giving close to a 100% profit. Verisign is only a manager of the .COM Registry - it has no business dictating price in this market. I am a small business owner with a collection of websites and domain names with .com addresses, and I am really disturbed to hear about the proposed changes allowing a removal of price caps on .com domain names. I don't agree with it or appreciate the secrecy involved, the money being generated without transparency or guarantee that it will somehow make the services better. Unpredictable price increases on core business assets like domain names makes is hard for smaller businesses like myself. Please reconsider this proposal. Catherine Bryant
