I'm a current registrant of a .COM domain name. I believe that the proposed increase in prices for .COM domains is outrageous. The current set price is already more than adequate. "Following review of all of the public comments received, ICANN org will prepare and publish a summary and analysis report of the comments received." First, this seems like a conflict of interest, sort of like letting the accused select which witnesses get to testify, or, as in recent times, to allow NO witnesses to testify at all. Second, with everything being handled by computers for the registration and maintenance of .COM domain names, and with little to no need for human interaction, the increased costs seem counter-intuitive. Prices should be dropping, not increasing. Third, not all online models can transfer to mobile 'apps' where the need for a .com domain is no longer even needed. Instead, we live and die by our .com domain names. The increased costs add an additional burden upon those who must maintain these domain names or even multiple versions of the same domain name in order to protect our intellectual property. For example, if I owned a company such as XYZShoes.com I would also need to register names like XYZ-Shoes.com, X-Y-Z-Shoes.com, XYZShoes.biz, etc. to keep people from trying to take traffic from me by using very similar domain names like "XYZShoe.com." Indeed, for a now-defunct online business I once owned I received constant offers to 'sell' me dozens of variations of my own domain names with threats of other people getting them if I didn't buy them and thus risk someone registering a variation as a trademark then suing me for infringement. This stuff goes on every day. In summary, I do not see any benefit to giving ICANN the ability to raise prices not in keeping with the actual market and indeed creating more harm than good by giving them the ability to raise wholesale costs on a product like this where there is no actual cost on their end beyond giving their executives raises and more office space. The internet is a beautiful place be where the barrier to entry is low enough anyone can participate in it. By raising fees you would essentially be raising the barrier to entry for everyone to contribute to this resource. .com is not a business but a public resource. Leave it alone

I would ask that you would take another look at agreement you see about to sign with Verisign. Keeping the internet, and top level domains inexpensive, should be a top priority for all involved. I understand these changes will have significant impact on the Internet for years to come, and only ICANN and Verisign have participated in this decision. The language around how money from Verisign to ICANN will be spent is nebulous at best. The necessity for such an increase is poorly addressed. Dear Madame or Sir, I think there are so many ways to count how much access a site gets, and based on the access, .com registration fee can be decided. at this digital technology era, fairness is not applied the same thing to all. so please consider. or you should make something like aaa.scom (= small company) for small business and keep the fee as low as possible and .com for major corporations and you can charge whatever they can afford based on the its value (access count etc..) Given that ICANN holds a virtual monopoly on the .COM top level domain, it is anticompetitive to simply hike the price with no competition or other open-market influence. I am strongly against it until the monopoly is busted and natural market forces can establish prices, or the organization is subjected to controls that are more in the public interest, like a public utility. I have several domain names of my own and manage a few others for some friends. While I can understand the need for an increase and the need for enhanced DNS security, I am concerned that this amendment COULD provide for a 7% annual increase in the price of domains. That's carrying things to an extreme; essentially raising the price of a .com domain 40% within 6 years. --

I am deeply disturbed by what I've heard recently about the proposed changes to the ICANN and Verisign contract. The price changes alone are outrageous and will bar millions of people, including families and small businesses, from owning and maintaining their websites. Additionally, allowing Verisign to operate as a registrar is counterproductive and will reduce the quality choices available for registrars on the consumer's end. And finally, what is this $20 million dollars for? Infrastructure? Security? The CEO's pocket? We deserve to know! I understand you've ignored us in the past. Don't do it again. Thank you, E. Smith

I disagree with the lack of openness regarding the proposed changes and the intent to tie a closer relationship with Verisign with an uncapped and uncontrolled fee structure over the next 10 years. The .COM registration fees are currently out of control and only getting worse. There’s no evidence that the proposed amendment will promote a stronger DNS solution or promote a healthy marketplace. I’m disheartened by this proposal and others that ICANN are considering (like with .ORG domains) as it seems like there are nefarious decisions being made without public discussion for a global service. This proposal implies that ICANN is resolving its responsibility and giving it to a private company. Vote NO on the amendment. Thank you, Ryan

My comment is simple: allowing COM prices to increase appears to be a pure money grab. There's no reason these prices should increase---the margins are already very high on domains and costs will be *decreasing*, not increasing, in the future. Taken together with recent (mis)behavior regarding ORG, it's hard to believe this is anything other than corrupt. Please don't do it. -- -=rsw

ICANN was created in part to introduce competition between domain name registrars, and it has enabled everyday people like me to have a chance at creating a small impact on others in the world by sharing our resources and helping them get results. Not maintaining price caps will counter the flourishing of the creators on the internet, and drive more power into the hands of the few.
