I oppose increases in .com registration fees without additional free market competition. If fee increases are warranted, the market should decide, not a regulatory body. However, the system as it stands takes away useful market signals as well as competitor pressures. Therefore, I see no clear reason for fee increases. Surely Verisign is not arguing that its cost of doing business has increased; nearly the entire industry is experiencing decreases in cost of business. Further, it is highly unlikely that there is any real new value or new problems that Verisign can solve for users, again leading to no reason for increased fees. If there is a clear value proposition for these increases, please make it public.

Dear Madam, or Sir, I am concerned about this amendment to the Registry Agreement because it will affect, not just me, buy any individual who would like their own domain name. I am 100% sure that no corporation will object to the 28% cost increase every six years as they earn money off their domain name and paying almost any amount would be acceptable to them. However, there are a great deal of small businesses that would see this as a burden as well as individual users out there that have purchased their own domain name and are using it for personal use, not commercial use. Several of us have multiple domain names, if for no other reason than to protect our own names from being used to run a website. You may also assume that all ".com" domain names are used for, or are supposed to be used for commercial purposes, however, this is not the case today. If this had been defined and enforced from the beginning of the internet, this would be a non-issue, however, to start enforcing it today would cause many many individuals to lose their domains. Yes, there are other top level domains they can move to, however, that doesn't alleviate the fact that they would be losing an asset they had invested much time, money, and resources acquiring. Please keep the annual fee very low or consider a more flexible charging system for the .COM top level domain that will keep it accessible to individuals and small businesses. Dear Sir or Madam, I am in complete opposition to the secret contract between ICANN and VeriSign regarding .COM domains - it will increase prices needlessly and if left unchecked will inevitably lead to Government oversight of the Internet if ICANN is a poor steward of this global resource. I urge a Price Cap on all domains pricing effective immediately and that ICANN be open and transparent to any and all actions that could impact the global businesses and individuals who rely on the worldwide web. Failure to heed this request will lead to changes n how ICANN will be permitted to operate. Hi, It has come to my attention that there are changes coming to the market for domain registrations, and that there may be significant price increases passed on to the consumer as a result of this set of proposed changes. As the internet is a public good (though managed in large part by private entities), I would like to humbly propose that ICANN solicit public funding for its infrastructure and operations rather than fall prey to profit-seeking in this domain of limited supply. Doing these proceeding behind closed doors and not letting anyone have a say in it is just not the right way to do business. These price increases will cause a lot of small businesses to go under. There is no need to have price increases for these .com domains. This is just ridiculous to have any price increase at all. Please stop making the internet expensive! While most of my clients are .org users, I do have a handful of .com users. As small organizations or companies, they need my internet hosting and domain name fees to be minimal. I generally do not charge an additional fee for the domain name but include it in the subscription price. However, it becomes very difficult for me to keep my prices low and competitive with the "big box" web providers and still make enough money to justify my continuing to offer my hosting services. Rather than changing or increasing prices for the .coms or giving Verisign the opportunity to increase prices, you ought to be lowering prices across the board so that more people can have websites, make money, and have fun doing it. Please don't let the huge multi-billion dollar companies put the rest of us out of business! Keep domain prices low! Thank you.

am a registrant of a .com domain name. I am against the proposed price increase to .COM domains. No one other than Verisign want increases in .COM prices. The current rate of $7.85 is already far more than justified. Verisign is merely your manager of the .COM Registry - it has no business dictating the price. To Whom It May Concern: To say that I am disturbed is an understatement. It will be very difficult for me to maintain your price increases that are upcoming. This feels like I’m being manipulated with no alternative. While I can appreciate you’re running a business, the substantial change would impact me and millions of other small businesses tremendously and is ultimately unfair. To whom it may concern: I don’t think it is right that .com domain name prices should be raised 8 out of the next 10 years - at rates that are not known to the public. These price increases will hurt small businesses and individuals that already own .com domain names. It seems that the two major beneficiaries will be two companies: ICANN and VERISIGN which are the same organizations that made this deal behind closed doors. Please stop making deals behind closed doors and keep .com domain names affordable for everybody - not just large corporations that can afford to pay exorbitant fees. Thanks, Chris

Hi there, I was recently notified of the contract changes by my domain provider, Namecheap. They mentioned that increased could be expected over the next 8 out of 10 years leading to a potential price increase for .COM of up to 70%. I wanted to reach out regarding this as it’s extremely concerning proposal to a small business owner such as myself. This type or change makes it difficult for small business owners and start ups to start and run their businesses. It puts barriers in the way of people operating their businesses and getting their ideas out into the world. It increases the operating costs and start up costs and makes it more difficult for entrepreneurs to change other people’s lives, make an impact and follow their dreams. As a web designer who works with other small businesses, I can see the impact that a price increase like this can have, on a grand scale. I urge you to please reconsider increasing the pricing for .COMs and recognize that making it more difficult for businesses to secure their place online impacts us all in a negative way. I strongly object to the proposed move to allow open ended increases in the fees charged for .COM domains. My own domain HUNTTING.COM has been the home for a long series of public service, non-profit, websites over the years. When first assigned, decades ago, there was very minor commercial content that has long since ended, but by then the domain name was established as a reference point for several Internet communities. Having a.com address for my small business is an absolutely vital part of my marketing. These changes and price increases could very well make it impossible for my business to afford keeping our current address. This does not seem like it could possibly be good for e-commerce. It is very much like rent prices forcing out mom and pop brick and mortar establishments. If the rent on.com addresses goes up too high nobody who is a solo entrepreneur is going to be able to afford them. The entrepreneurial spirit is a vital part of our culture and of our economy.
