I am a registrant of many domain names. I am against the proposed price increase to .COM domains. This would have a negative effect on my business and STRONGLY oppose this move. No one other than Verisign want increases in .COM prices. Other GTLDS have been able to lower costs. The current rate of $7.85 is already far more than justified. Verisign is merely your manager of the .COM Registry - it has no business dictating the price and this backroom deal is reprehensible. The proposed price increase of the .COM registry is unnecessary and greedy move by ICANN. The cost of facilitating a registry, in this case by Verisign, has never been cheaper on a per domain basis. Therefore there is no satisfactory reason that a non-profit organization would increase costs towards the very people it is intended to serve. Unfortunately, it is unlikely that these comments will even be considered and at worse they will simply be called 'spam'. So we must hope that eventually investigations into this and the related .ORG scandal will bring the individuals responsible for this greed and misconduct to the eye of the law and the public. Not only is this comment against the proposed price increases, it is also against ICANN control of the DNS root zone and any other aspects of the internet at large. Thank you.

The proposed price increases will be detrimental to my economic situation as I am not generating enough total revenue to justify paying higher domain name registration fees, increasing web hosting fees, etc. I am respectfully requesting that ICANN be considerate of struggling web developer such as myself when deciding to implement the fee increases. To whom it may concern, Wholesale registries charge Namecheap a set fee per domain name per year. According to this new agreement, Verisign will be allowed to increase the wholesale price to registrars for .COM domains every year for 8 out of the next 10 years, and the increases don't stop there. This will mean that .COM wholesale domain prices can grow by more than 70% over and above current prices over the next decade. The contract also allows for other price increases, which could drive prices up further, ultimately making .COM domains less accessible and more expensive for everybody. Thank you for the opportunity to provide comments to the proposed amendment to the .COM registry agreement. I have a domain portfolio of over 1,000 .COM domains. Considering the origin of the price increases that have made their way into many registry agreements, I'm opposing any potential price increases, especially for .COM. The increases were originally allowed due an out of court settlement between ICANN and Verisign, that was decided without any community input and should have been time limited. Being quite technical myself, I do not see any obvious reason for the cost to run the registry and the DNS servers to increase. Technology gets cheaper in scale and the number of registrations is still increasing. Many other potential operators have made credible statements (and bids) that show that the registry can be run at a lower price. Thus, the rate should remain fixed at $7.85, or even be lowered. As a public company, Verisign's biggest obligation is to their shareholders, which means they need to increase their profit as much as possible. This does not align with the interest of the community and stakeholders in the ICANN process. Dear ICANN, I am writing in response to the proposed amendment 3 to the .COM Registry Agreement. I and the church I represent have a total of three .com domains between us, and this amendment would increase the fees on them to the point where it would be difficult to justify keeping all of them. Put differently, it would make having .com domains increasingly less of an option for us, and I suspect we’re far from the only one. As an internet user, website owner and operator, and professional web developer, I cannot fathom how you can possibly justify this change. This is nothing but monopolistic extortion. Unless Verisign's costs are expected to rise faster than inflation (which they are emphatically not), then this is completely unjustifiable on the grounds of the public good. This is merely enriching verisign at the public's expense. It's indefensible and preposterous on it's face. Seriously, you all need to give your head a shake for thinking this was halfway reasonable, it goes against the very principles that our economy is based on, for no reason whatsoever except enriching a singular private company. Arbitrary increasing the prices of .com domain names will hurt an extremely large part of the internet consumers, please don't let this happen, Verisign already makes many millions of dollars by leveraging the economy of scale with hundred of millions of .com domains, and that allows them to maintain and improve their infrastructure without any issue and still have large profits, if we allow them to increase the prices, that will make more hurt than good, just too fill the pockets of a few greedy actors and hamper the innovation of the internet.
