(I wish I could raise my prices 7+% per year with the blessing of the government!) These types of decisions might make the United States Post Office relevant again. No one other than Verisign want increases in .COM prices. The current rate of $7.85 is already far more than justified. Dear ICANN, The idea that VeriSign could even consider raising prices reeks of corruption. The .com registry prices are already at least double what they would be if there was an open market. Even most registrars make less than $3 per domain, and they have to charge credit cards, maintain individual accounts, and provide customer service to end users. They also often include tools like URL forwarding. There is no way even the current $7.85 can be justified outside of a monopoly. Raising that further is out of the question. The discussion should be how much should VeriSign be forced to lower the price if they want to keep the contract.

To whom it may concern: I am writing to express my profound disapproval of the proposed Amendment 3 to the .COM Registry Agreement. The proposed amendment allows for a possible 70% (or more) increase in wholesale .COM domain prices over the next 10 years. That is ridiculous and unconscionable, especially since there is no reason whatsoever for such a drastic price increase. Furthermore, the whole arrangement looks like straight up bribery. Verisign pays ICANN $20 million, and (surprise surprise) gets a ton of new benefits in return? Well that is the very definition of corruption. Do not enact this amendment. I am a registrant of a .com domain name. Unless there is an accompanying benefit, I am against the proposed price increase to .COM domains. Otherwise, I see no justification for the increase in costs to .com owners. The cost of maintaining my .com domain records is surely not increasing, and the revenue received by these organizations should be more than adequate to maintain the infrastructure profitably. Hi, I'm a small time, struggling entrepreneur with a long vision for the internet and future. I own a small portfolio of about 225 URL's ... I'm concerned on not just the purchase of a new domain, but also in the renewal cost which could cause considerable issues for sites that I run for non-profits, sports clubs, friends, and family.... and many URL's that I'm slowly developing. Hello, I am deeply disappointed by backroom deals such as this. Raising prices like this with no indication as to why only serves those at the top with the power. The internet should be as open and accessible as possible so that everyone may prosper. Keeping domain names at a low price so that anyone may get their website found is a crucial step in this goal. Decisions like this hurt small business and individuals from participating.
