Sirs, It seems to me that whenever someone has a strangle hold on anything then they seem to think this is a God given gift to soak more money out of people. Google and Microsoft been classic examples. Please note my strong objection to a price increase without any justification. To whom it may concern, I am very surprised to know that a private entity has monopoly over .com pricing. I am also very surprised to hear the reasoning provided: “in line with policy priorities of the Trump Administration.”. I am assuming this is a poorly phrased or misquoted statement, because the department should prioritise public/national interest above all else. Of course, the final domain pricing is not currently regulated. This is not ideal, but it was not a big deal until now. This is about to change. The department needs to have a plan to mitigate the final pricing of domains so that this proposed price hike does not affect the public and small business owners. Otherwise, I am afraid this will hurt small businesses. Many small businesses might have no choice but to resort to foreign alternatives. They will have to migrate to new domains, a process that will almost certainly confuse and mislead customers as well. I hope the department has done the necessary auditing and will take immediate steps to regulate the final pricing. I chose .com as my domain because I trusted the US system. I object to the idea that .com prices woudl be raise as I do not think the cost is warranted and it makes it harder for those who have less to start their own website. The disadvantage that those who are poorer have bin a digital world is referred to as the digital divide. I believe this will adversely affect a many people even though the revenues for domain registration as part of an efficient process should be more than sufficient. I'm not saying it out of an obvious desire to merely save money but internet, as we know it is free medium and the price increase means fewer .com registrations per year and this especially impacts people in developing countries where the currency value is really low and the need for information technology and a "free medium" for spread of information is high (free from government interference). The price increase is surely likely to impact and "disempower" certain groups and should be carefully considered unless absolutely necessary. Thanks

Increases in costs for maintaining domains has not happened significantly enough to warrant the proposed changes to increase the prices over time as proposed. There is not enough evidence that these costs are anywhere near necessary and if occurring a petition to congress to look into the reasons for a increase like this that will effect millions of businesses and individuals would be the next step.

Dear ICANN representatives, I am very concerned about the changes in the contract between ICANN and Verisign and about the creation of this contract. It does not seem to me to be an appropriate way of proceeding for an institution committed to the free Internet. Non-transparent negotiations and large payments not bound to a specific purpose (here $20,000,000!) have the potential to cause irreparable damage to trust. Furthermore, domain names are an integral part of the free internet and especially .COM domains are an important basis for small and medium sized companies, self-employed persons and start-ups all over the world to participate in the free, worldwide traffic of goods and services. - And this is not the only, but in my opinion the most important innovation that has been made possible by the Internet. There is no question that all parties should benefit from this traffic. A drastic price increase over a long period of time, however, has the potential to permanently destroy the Internet as we know it and its possibilities for participation - and what will remain, as always, is us, who have the majority of all privileges on our side anyway. So please keep in mind that the internet is not only Microsoft, Google and Amazon, but also Bob's Auto Parts Market and this small, highly innovative start-up of some students from the Czech Republic, which wants to offer its services worldwide and therefore relies on the recognized .COM domain! Self employed people, charities and tiny sturtups. will find this a huge burden that could render the internet only accessible to medium and large corporations, therefore undemocratic. I am opposed to this deal, as it violates the spirit of ICANN’s mission and purpose. To whom it may concern, I am writing to express concerns about the proposed amendment 3. As a domain holder and internet user, I strongly believe that handing more control to Verisign (both through increasing prices, and allowing Verisign to act as a Registrar) threatens the integrity of the internet. I believe that these actions are fueled by ICANN's self interest rather than your duty as steward of internet infrastructure. Samuel Wein PhD
