Hello, This is an opinion on the .COM prices increase that is going to happen after January 2020. I have several hundreds .com domains and this increase in prices is going to affect me and the other "little guys" and "little girls" like me in a major way! Do you know how I feel about the increase, well I feel like shit, because of you Corporate Monsters are doing everything to squeeze every bit of living breath out of the "little guy" - you greedy bastards! Instead of finding ways of decreasing the costs for us the working folks, you and the rest of Corporate mafia is coming up with "brilliant ideas" to drain our resources... Needless to say, I and thousands of the "little guys" are against this ICANN change. Against this price increase, no matter how "mild" you think the impact will be! Stop the price increase...

Like many people i believe in the internet being a free and open space for the sharing of information It has become evident that the internet as a whole is being consolidated into a handful of platforms owned by a small number of Tech Companies. Such as Facebook, Google and Amazon One of the only ways to have your own space on the internet outside of the reach of big techs ever-changing terms of service. Is to purchase your own domain and hosting. Increasing the price of purchasing a domain name. Even if this price change is very small. May be enough to stop smaller domain owners from renewing or buying new domains. I already have noticed that many small businesses still use Gmail addresses and Facebook pages instead of hosting their own websites and email. I can see why many business owners may do this. After-all why bother buying your own domain names, email and hosting when Google and Facebook will happily provide all the internet services you may need for free. Besides the data collection and lack of Privacy. Please don't play into Big Tech's hands Thank you for your consideration.

Hi ICANN, >From NameCheap.com, we got to know that Verisign agreed to pay ICANN an additional $20 million dollars over five years to support ICANN's domain name system initiatives, without any clarity about how ICANN will spend the money, or who will ensure that the funds are properly spent on domain infrastructure. According to this new agreement, Verisign will be allowed to increase the wholesale price to registrars for .COM domains every year for 8 out of the next 10 years, and this might not even stop there. Handing over such kind of power to a single company without any regulation would only mean havoc. Without the information on the company's intent on using that power gives a chance, that it can capitalised to the point where the le' website/ business owner would be charged more that the existing prices for the greed of the company. A justified price with improved service or security features are always welcome. However, using a fake or non-existing technology just to mint money would be a blunder. Hope, ICANN would reconsider the agreement with Verisign or the proposal in the view of their consumer's interests. In the worst case scenario, if the .COM website prices are hiked the consumers would move to a better service that would offer .COM sites at a lower price or to stick to other endings, .org, .net, etc.... As an owner of a couple .com domains, I’m very concerned about the rent-seeking behavior of registries in this essentially captured market. These digital properties (domains) were created years ago and, yet, their owners are still charged yearly to be able to retain their domains. What sense does this make, given the extremely low cost of property rights maintenance in this virtual world? A unilaterally imposed rental arrangement, much like property taxes in the statist realm, can’t be considered true ownership. And a valid contract would require a meeting of the minds and transparency of pricing alterations during contract renewals. There was a reason the freeze was in place to avoid monopoly and other unfairness. Margin should still be healthy. I am against this amendment as it currently stands. I do not agree with the idea that .COM domains prices must be raised. It seems that Verisign benefits from this agreement, while ICANN receives $20 million with no oversight or clarity on how that money will be spent, and the general public is meant to shoulder the burden that this agreement will create. There should be more clarity and transparency regarding how the $20 million will be used, and an open discussion about options moving forward rather than a deal made behind closed doors with a brief period of public comment. I do not agree with the amount the prices are able to be increased in this agreement. There are not viable alternatives to the .com tld. Average used don't understand or trust many other domains. This will put an undue burden on domain owners who don't have a large (or any) income.

While it is reasonable for a TLD operator to wish to raise the registration price, I strongly believe these changes and negotiations should be made in the open. Hi there I too am a registrant of a .com domain name. I am against the proposed price increase to .COM domains because I sincerely believe that it is unfair and a money earning scheme by Verisign want increases in .COM prices. The current rate of $7.85 is already far more than justified and fair given the many millions of holders of a .com address and the monies earned from that. Such an increase will not only drive small businesses out but also make them look for other alternatives and given the power of the people in bringing those to answer in recent media, I am sure the same power will be able to come up with an alternative if pushed which will go against Verisign and ICANN. Verisign is merely manages the .COM Registry – why is it dictating the price other than for its own gain? For what purpose and how can it justify this for small businesses and individuals? ICANN is supposed to govern the domain name system in the public interest, why is it not doing so? Please do the right thing by us! I strenuously oppose the proposed pricing increase and the associated payment of millions of dollars (which seems more like a bribe). Dear Icann, Please refrain from allowing Verisign to increase the wholesale price to registrars for .COM domains every year for 8 out of the next 10 years, and then some. These price increases will make .COM domains less accessible and more expensive for everybody - and for what reason? Please vote down this amendment. Sincerely, Stewart

Hello, I would like to request that you maintain the .com registry at it current cost to consumers. I have a domain name for my personal use for accessing my home network and having an email address that does not change across different internet service providers. As I do not use the domain name for profit, I cannot afford to keep it should the price change very much. Thank you, Craig Kalem

The proposal to allow Verisign to buy their way towards a monopoly in domain name registry by PAYING ICANN to assert price increases which the majority of Domain registrars disagree with and without consulting them is ethically wrong and dangerous for business. It is a blatent attempt to shut down other domain registrars and the price increases proposed are a measure to price out the general public from accessing domain registration and building their own websites and online businesses. This is by design so that the takeover of the internet by large corporate entities can begin as control of the internet roles out in conjunction with the roll out of harmful 5g technology and the re organisation of world power. As well as the shadow banning and censorship of non mainstream alternative viewpoints on current and historial events. Domain price highjacking without consultation with internet providers and users should be illegal and the relevant parties involved should be taken to court in a class action lawsuit.

the internet is for everyone, not just the reach. And not just the massive corporations. I have been running a small sole proprietor business for over 30 years. I have registered two domain names with a .com extension nearly 20 years ago. I initially dealt with Verisign and over the years they became more and more greedy, charging me higher and higher fees despite a limited small scale website. the user interface became more convoluted and difficult and the customer support declined to almost useless. I eventually sought out other avenues to keep my domains registered and another hosting site that was reasonably priced and actually helpful. Now I learn that ICANN is basically taking a "bribe" or a cut off the top to allow Verisign unrestricted abilities to increase prices. Thanks for ruining it for the little guy. The mom and pop businesses that are just having a small web presence. Name Cheap and HostGator have made it financially and technically possible for me to keep my small business and it's 20 year old website up and running. Now Verisign is making sure that I will most likely have to pay significantly more as they try to crowd out, price out any competition by dictating the over price for domain registration to fall in line with their inflated pricing schemes. ICANN and Verisign have now fallen into the same category as massive corporate banks and insurance companies who do not give a damn except for making a profit and improving shareholder value, while taking advantage of the simple small organisations that allowed them to start in the first place. Income inequality at its best, corporate bureaucracy trodding on the little guy. Thanks for making it even harder. Typically, public opinion matters especially when decisions such as these affect a majority. .COM domains are the largest TLDs and should not experience this price hike. I am a domainer (I invest in domain names as a business). I am against the proposed price increase to .COM domains. No one other than Verisign want increases in .COM prices. Dear Sir Referring to the subject, we as reseller for domain & hosting services in Malaysia do not agree to proceed with the amendment as .com domains affects worldwide domain owners. Kindly clarify the following : 1. Why is only Verisign involved in this initiative? 2. What about participation from the Internet community and other players in the market to contribute to this framework? 3. The US$ 20 million funding from Verisign does not seem appropriate as ICANN is an organization that provide accreditation to many other companies. What are the measures to ensure the money does not affect the decision-making process in ICANN? We believe in making Internet accessible to all and further increase in domain price does not support that goal. Thank you.
