The costs for maintaining a secure and simple database which has been maintained now for almost 3 decades (that I can recall since I started owning and managing domains in 1993) should be declining and not increasing. You can make a case for increased security but give me a break ! At best you can raise for inflation but only from the lowest your rates ever were. ICANN has done a good job but there is no need to start screwing the industry and everyone involved (see the whole world) just because you can. This amendment is monopolistic, greedy, a blatant conflict of interest with Verisign. It is unfair to hosting providers and it is unfair to users. It reflects poorly on ICANN and your mission. There will be backlash. There will be consequences. Maybe there will be a new ICANN that doens't use Verisign. Then you'll have a real reason to raise rates to pay for the legal battles you'll be fighting with every country that uses the internet. Deep Puri

Don’t increase the domain site prices. Keep internet accessible to the people. Internet should be considered a right and anyone should be able to participate in the space that allows freedom of information. By increasing the prices you will negatively impact this accessibility and thus hurt the freedom it brings. Instead focus on prevention of domain dominance of bots that buy them to make profit.

Hello, I think the rate of price increase for .com domains should be tied directly to cost of administration. DNS is essentially a public utility, and should be priced as such. The language of the amendment should reflect that. I don’t actually mind the 7% per year maximum, as long as the primary criteria for changing rates is tied to the actual cost. I like that Verisign will contribute $20 million to improve DNS security. And I like that work is being put into the RDAP protocol. It’s not explicitly stated, but I hope that RDAP can help make domain privacy “add ons” obsolete, and provide some of the same benefit by default. IF ICANN does this, it will impact MILLIONS of domain users and Millions of people CAN be catalyzed to strong opposition lobbying efforts with voices in THOSE VERY same MILLIONS of .com sites to demand removal of ICANN authority due to breach of fiduciary trust for personal (corporate) gain. The deal with VeriSign is structured in such a way as to be perceived as a bribe. Times are changing whereas decisions made to impact multitudes by the few will be tolerated and accepted. Inquiries into ANTI-TURST CAN be initiated and penalties well above the $20,000,000 ICANN plans to receive can be pressured by the public to be demanded. These are just some of the very real consequences that CAN be enacted if this deal goes through. it will NOT take much encouragement to the MILLIONS that will be affected to be convinced. Particularly when the issue is impacting them financially. in fact, support of this initiative IS what will be MOST difficult to garner from these very MILLIONS. To whom it may concern: I find it ridiculous that over the next decade you feel that up to a 70% increase in the pricing of .com domains is appropriate. As a small business owner who manages a large number of domains for various clients, this will directly impact my business and my ability to provide quality services at affordable prices. I can wholeheartedly understand the need to increase prices with rising costs, as inflation does impact an organizations bottom line, such a large increase over the next decade is not warranted. I would support a market indexed inflation increase % every few years to keep up with the rise in costs, but dramatic increases in prices only harm our overall industry, and the economy. In this age of social networks, big web platforms and apps there has been a drastic decrease in traffic on all sites. There was never less need to have a domain and a site, instead of simply having a corner in each of those platforms, whether for a business or private purpose. In addition, there were never as many TLDs as today, so increasing the price of .COM registration is a bad move for all involved parties. If the increase happens, as someone with multiple registered COM domains with content, I will be considering simply moving to a new TLD, especially for any future domain consideration. Please consider the long-term strategic impact of increasing the prices for .com. Anyone who knows anything about infrastructure knows these changes are driven much more by the desire for more money than a core need for more infrastructure to support domain names. ".com" already holds a dominant position among domain names, and brings in significant "revenue" to support the infrastructure. Why risk undermining a good thing? Using basic economic analysis we can theorize the higher we drive prices the more likely an alternative is likely to arise, one that ICANN will have much less influence over. I do not support the proposed changes. It feels like there has not been adequate transparency for how the money generated by the increased fees will be spent or managed. It also feels like fee increases are unnecessary and being driven by misguided priorities. Then they will be able to compete against the very registrars that they are administering to will give them an unfair advantage and that will give them a virtual monopoly.Verisign giving you $20 million dollars amounts to bribery for you looking the other way. Raising prices in a vague open ended way is terrible for everyone except maybe you guys. I don’t mean potential competition but the whole economy will be affected. Greed in this way could shatter the dot com bubble and make things worse on those who are struggling for decades to come. No! Don’t do it.

I do not support the proposed amendment. There seems to be no particular benefit to end users like myself who run a small .com domain, and the only likely visible effect is an increase in prices. The price cap applies only until October 2026 and there appear to be no restrictions beyond that. It is also disheartening that at a time when prices for technology are consistently and constantly downwards, ICANN has reached a solution that involves increasing prices for end-users. ICANN is at the core of the Internet, which is ever-growing; there must surely be better ways of raising the revenue that ICANN needs without simply increasing prices for captive end-users who have no alternative. I would like to voice my objections to these price increases. If anything, these costs should have been going down over time. It is reprehensible to allow for this many increases and for such high amounts. This is going to compound the oligarchical problems in our society even more, for someone's greed. Stop listening to lobbyists and messing with all good things, like the internet. More people have .coms now then decades ago so more are already contributing, whereas storage space has gotten cheaper. These changes are completely unjustifiable. It's horrifying that they're being considered - do not allow this to pass.

I am a registrant of several .com domain names. I am against the proposed price increase to .COM domains. No one other than Verisign want increases in .COM prices. If Verisign won't cooperate, please find another .COM registry manager who will cooperate. The current rate of $7.85 is already far more than justified. Verisign is merely your manager of the .COM Registry - it has no business dictating the price. ICANN is supposed to govern the domain name system in the public interest. I note this arrangement concluded in secret between ICANN and Verisign, with no clarity on what the benefits will be for .COM domain owners. If there is no clarification re how ICANN will spend the $20 million to improve the .COM space, who do you recommend all .COM domain holders should contact to protect their interests? I’m thinking FTC and Monopolies Commission, but if you have better suggestions I’d be very grateful. This kind of commercial behavior must be stopped in its tracks asap. Thank you, Mike Feury, .COM domain owner.
