Hello, I am just working on 3 starts ups, and I know that some of them may fail, but with the fair price that it actually is, I can afford to keep on working until I finally succeed, but this set a great limitation on my efforts, since it may takes years until I can make a revenue on them, to actually pay something that expensive. You may say that that $20 or a little more is not that much, but if I have to pay that for 5 domains it would be $100, and not to mention any other service to keep on running. I ask ICANN to please not remove price caps from .com domain registrations. The proposed 7% price rase per year is an astronomical amount to go up, and will make .com domains expensive and prohibitive to obtain and maintain. .com is the main domain of the internet, it makes up most of the TLD’s in existence, this change will affect a huge percentage of the internet community. ICANN is meant to serve the internet and its users, and to foster competition (which provides better products and pricing to users). This move along with the removal of price caps on previous domains (.org .info .biz) as well as the huge influx of new TLD’s many at ridiculous prices has not made for a better internet, but a more muddied and expensive one. I admit I don't do much with bradjones.com and the 2 domains I've registered for my 16 year old daughters but to charge more for these is unfair. At least separate the usage by company size or something else. It will be a burden to the average people in many cases, and I LOATHE Facebook.

Hi I am writing to object to the deal ICANN is making with Verisign to allow increasing of prices on .com TLDs. It's wrong that one single company is given a total monopoly on selling something and setting it's price. It's effectively a license to print money without any competition for free market pricing. There's no option for domain owners to choose a cheaper alternative because there are none. Domain owners are held to ransom and have to pay ever increasing prices for the profit of one company (and ICANN) as there's no alternative. It seems wrong anyway that you have to continually pay each year to have a domain name rather then owning it outright after a single payment but to have no choice but to keep paying endlessly rising prices for it each year is even worse. I have just read the proposal. The first thing that comes to mind, is who profits from this? And what do we, as domain owners, get for our money? Better security? Better service? What do we get? Explain this in detail, that is, to us. And why is this better. If current or former members, say of ICAAN and/or Verisign, in investment roles or otherwise get more cash in the pocket because of this, and that's all it's about, I see a conflict of interest that needs to be addressed. I understand that, according to this new agreement, Verisign will be allowed to increase the wholesale price to registrars for .COM domains every year for eight out of the next ten years. I do not support this. I use .COM domains for a very small business, for personal purposes, and even for an open-source project web site. (You could object I should use .ORG for some of those -- but that situation is also a mess now.) If ICANN wants funding for specific projects, it should explain what and why, and ask for contributions. I might be willing to contribute that way -- transparently, Instead, the way you are going about this seems unfair to consumers of .COM domains -- as well as to registrars, among whom less competition will also ultimately be unfair to consumers like me. Please shine some sunlight on your decision-making process. Please do the right thing. Thank you.

To Whom It May Concern, Reading the proposed amendment to the .COM Registry Agreement, I must first state my disappointment with how this whole process has been handled by ICANN. I very much understand Verisign's fondness for keeping this whole proposed amendment as secret as possible for as long as possible, but ICANN should strive to increase transparency, not try to minimize it. It leaves the community with the (probably right) impression that matters are not really handled as a community, but rather by a select few behind closed doors. I hope this is a singular oversight on ICANN's part, and not an indicator of procedure going forward. Regarding the content of the proposed amendment, I can not see how, if I read it correctly, an up to 70% increase in domain name costs over the coming 10 years is in any way motivated. Costs of maintaining the necessary infrastructure has dropped over the last decade, and will continue to drop as technology, convergence and automation improves. This should mandate that prices should drop going forward, not increase. A natural correction for inflation is maybe necessary, but that would be in single percentage points over the same time period regardless of what model for estimating inflation is used. Dear Sirs, I think the price increases you allow of exotic proportions and up to 70% make the internet and the TLD registration undemocratic and segregational, especially to new entrepreneurs and small businesses, which make up the vast majority of domain registers/clients and internet users at the same time. Do not allow this abuse. Resist obscurity behind which you and only 1 the private company decide for the TLD fate of the world, a whopping 40% of the market share but way more in the mindshare of users, since any TLD is primarily associated with .com in users’ minds. Because the Internet and the TLDs therefore are a GLOBAL issue and not just a private issue between 2 companies. Your decisions raise serious concerns throughout the internet community globally and lead to outrageous prices. Yes, even meds can raise their pricess but did you see the effects in recent examples? You can not allow exaggeration and exuberance, as the overseeing authority on domain registrations, let alone to cut deals directly with 1 private company without listening to anyone else. I find the information that Namecheap provided on this issue useful. I would be not only surprised but infuriated in i saw .com’s at 30 or 40 per piece per year. Let alone the already exuberant prices of some .coms in the thousands of dollars. Domains are just a registration and nothing else, not the business itself or the process to be found. As the owner of a .com domain, I think that this change is a very bad idea. Having the price follow inflation is fine, but 7% increase is ridiculous. Verisign reported a 69.4% operating margin in Q1 2019, so this isn't a matter of the cost not covering the expenses, or even just barely doing so. Domain names are an essential part of the decentralized nature of the internet. Making .com more expensive will lock people out of the market and will make small domain owners like myself consider just using alternative DNS roots. This would fracture the internet into a million pieces. Please don't pass amendment 3.

Running a website often has lots of different costs involved - from hosting fees to the time to setup and then manage and maintain a website. The last thing we need is a huge price increase. I have read the proposed change and there is no public reason for anyone outside of Verisign to condone this deal. Prices overall should go down, not up. That's what happens in an economy with competition in it. Monopolies, yes, they rise their prices whenever they want. Raising the .COM TLD prices just opens the door to rise prices on every other TLD. That's not fair to the consumer. What does this do to the industry overall where resellers already charge a pretty hefty markup on parked domains. IF the deal was targeted to those entities who don't use the domain but only have it parked waiting for a buyer, I can see a reason since it would probably democratize the market a little more. But to do it blindly to all it's just a kick in the back for the consumers and just an artificial excuse to rise prices overall just because. I urge you to don't do this. Thank you. It is my view that lacking significant competition in terms of running this database, and with web customers unable to simply migrate their sites, the price controls ICANN currently places on TLD registrars are an important and necessary part of the system. Verisign is merely the manager of the .COM Registry and has no business dictating the price.
