It is highly disappointing to watch ICANN further depredating the public trust, as we face the latest in a long series of cynical money grabs by cronies of the Corporation's leadership. Serving as a captured agency to Verisign's exploitation of their de facto monopoly over the most valuable domain names is not what any of us had in mind in 1998 — or perhaps it was precisely what you had in mind all the time, and the rest of us were too naïve to see it then. More and more, it looks like a real alternative to current governance is the only path forward that can be expected to work to the benefit of internet users, rather than that of a well-connected company with a documented history of abusing both the market and the privacy of millions of individuals. Hello, I have been made aware by Namecheap about the impending price increases on .com domains over the next decade. As a small business owner, I do not wish to see a further expense levied that will apply pressure to my day-to-day workings. It is entirely unethical to have implemented a deal that sees end users forking out more than they need in order to own one of if not the oldest TLD in internet history. The price of .com domains should be decreasing, not increasing as the maintenance costs of better technology become cheaper. I will be sharing this with local business owners in the UK. I own a .COM domain since years, and the Internet should not become a restricted market, where a few companies like Verisign control prices and registrars and possibly can raise registrar prices at their own discretion. I am completely against this contract with Verisign and hope you will change it to allow a free and open market and open fair competition for a lot of registers and don’t favor one company like Verisign, even not when they are paying you 20 Million Dollars. I do not support this proposed amendment No. 3 to the .COM Registry Agreement (Amendment 3). There is an extreme lack of oversight for this initiative, which may seem like it offers value, but in truth only offers value to ICANN org and Verisign, Inc. Who will regulate the possibility of price increase after the freeze period? Who will ensure that the revenue received from these increases will be used to 'work together on additional initiatives'? As an owner of multiple .com domain names, I do not support this amendment and I do not support the possibility for an increase in .com registrant prices. Technology costs are constantly decreasing as new efficient mechanisms, procedures, and other various improvements are made each day. "Security, stability, and resiliency" of the Domain Name System can be improved by utilizing better talent, not at the unnecessary expense of domain name owners. Overall, $7.85 already exceeds the value offered by the DNS service.

Profit chasing by corporate giants leaves the masses feeling used, helpless and exploited. It is always reasonable for price increases that are justified and necessary but when the limit is removed and the price raise has no increased value of a service or product it becomes a hard pill to swallow. Also, with the alternatives to .com constantly growing with competitive price options for the consumer to turn to, aggressively raising the price will encourage the users to consider turning to cheaper and more accurate domain names. ".COM" has always been such a great symbol unifying WWW in a way that makes it easy for all to use and navigate. Policy changes, particularly those impacting pricing and access should be made in full sunshine and with solo station and consideration is majority public sentiment. The current rate of about USD 7-8 is already far more than justified. Given that Verisign does not provide any value added service - it is essentially a free cash cow for Verisign. Verisign built the software off of registration fee so technically ICANN owns the Verisign software to manage domains. Verisign is merely your manager of the .COM Registry – it has no business dictating the price. ICANN is supposed to govern the domain name system in the public interest and I would further propose that each living person should be entitled to a a domain name for life. Infrastructure takes a lot of money to build but it takes peanuts to maintain in comparison.

I am completely against this proposal. This is absurd and is blatantly a for profit company bribing a non-profit under the guise of helping, and the effects will be far reaching - not for ICAAN, certainly not for Verisign, but for everyday users who will see costs dramatically increase with little to no benefits. Where is this $20 million being used? No details given except broad assurances which do not mean anything. I am opposed to the Proposed Amendment 3 to the .COM Registry Agreement between ICANN and Verisign Inc. I currently hold registrations for three (3) .COM domain names; homebuilt-lan.com (since 1998), rlbuckmaster.com (since 2010), and jobhuntgps.com (since 2015). Over the past 20 years I have held registrations for numerous other .COM domain names. Therefore, I have a deep vested interest in any changes to pricing related to .COM domain name registration. I am opposed specifically because there can be no valid justification to allow .COM domain registration prices to increase annually at more than twice the forecast global inflation rate. This is especially true when the cost of technology required to support TLD name services has decreased rapidly over the last 10 years. It is claimed that ICANN and Verisign Inc. negotiated these changes without input from other parties. This is a direct violation of the ICANN charter to operate with transparency and in the public interest. If the Proposed Amendment 3 to the .COM Registry Agreement between ICANN and Verisign Inc. is adopted as is, I will contact my U.S. Congressman and U.S. Senators requesting they open an investigation to determine if ICANN has violated its charter to operate in the public interest when secretly negotiating with Verisign Inc. I have participated in arguments for and against the intended price hike (amendment) for the .com domain by ICANN.org through VERISIGN Inco. and found both sides of the argument very interesting. I know that anyone who is in business has profit as the ultimate goal. However, if that profit is to be achieved at the detriment of those who patronize one's business, then that ultimate goal is either ill-intended or not well thought of. My argument over this issue has remained that the price hike is good if only it is for the developed countries (super-powers) and the grade A companies in those countries. If it is uniformly applied, what happens to the third world countries who use the internet and the .com domain for their businesses. Unless this price hike is intended to push the third world countries out of the internet world system, I don't see how this will benefit them. I therefore don't support it as it will turn out to be an evil wind that blows no one any good. Chidi Sam

Despite there clearly being potential financial gains to be had by raising the registration fee on .com domains, the global DNS registration system should be run primarily as a public concern. The only entities that stand to benefit from the proposed arrangement are verisign itself, at the expense of the public. While price hikes such as this likely won't mean much to the larger business concerns that buy in bulk, it will impact the millions of small, independent businesses and developers that rely on the system as is to make their livelihood. At worst, this could prove yet another point of pressure that convinces a small business to make their online presence exclusively in the Facebook walled garden and eschew the web itself. The web, and global DNS, were envisioned to be run for the public good, and they SHOULD be run for the public good. Deals such as this are an abdication of that mandate; short sighted profit chasing at the expense of all else. Please do not adopt this proposal. - Marcus

Down with ICANN!!! ICANN should change their domain to ICANN.com as you have become a for profit commercial company, selling away all the interests of public to a private company. You are destroying the .com internet by making it unaffordable to the people from developing nations. Sorry to say, but ICANN and Verisign need to be banned to do any business related to .com and internet. Both need to be fined heavily for price fixing act. Thankyou Ajay
