My favorite feature of the internet is that it levels the playing field. Once online, a single person can create a web presence that rivals even the biggest corporation's web presence, and for fairly cheaply. This presents all kinds of opportunities for people - with enough effort, a person can get onto the internet and build something interesting. A crucial part of this is having a memorable domain name, and the .com domain is easily the most popular and easy to remember. Allowing this new price-increase plan will shut out entrepreneurs. A lot of the newer generic gTLDs are prohibitively expensive, shutting out people who may not have a lot of money but have a great idea. Having a .com domain to point to is crucial for anybody starting a new business venture. Please keep the .com domain inexpensive, and don't allow Verisign to shut out new businesses. -John Regan Jr
