It does not feel like ICANN is looking after the interests of its users at all. The proposed increases come across as monopolistic price gouging. Domain registration is a highly-automatable business and should therefore have a very low cost base. ICANN should rather use competitive market forces to keep prices low and service levels high, by putting the .com domain registration operations up for tender for fixed multi year periods.
