Latin GP comments regarding Cyrillic LGR Proposal The Latin GP appreciates the opportunity to provide feedback to our fellow generation panel colleagues from the Cyrillic Script GP. As a follow up to our conversation during GP’s presentation at ICANN 60, the Latin GP wanted to formally present the preliminary list of cross-script variants sets this panel has found with respect to the Cyrillic Script. The table below has a list of twenty five (25) proposed Latin-Cyrillic cross-script variant sets. Of the 25 sets, 18 have been found to match the Cyrillic LGR Proposal. However, the Latin GP found an additional 7 Latin code points visually identical to a Cyrillic code point. Those 7 sets are denoted in the table with “Not Found”. The Latin GP kindly requests the Cyrillic GP to weigh in on the merits of those additional 7 code points and whether these should be defined in the cross-script variant sets. Dear colleagues, The Armenian Generation Panel (ArmenianGP) congratulates the Cyrillic Generation Panel with the great job done in developing the proposal. The ArmenianGP agrees with the following Armenian homoglyphs included in the Proposal for a Cyrillic Root Zone LGR: Armenian glyph Armenian code point Name Cyrillic glyph Cyrillic code point հ 0570 ARMENIAN SMALL LETTER HO һ 04BB օ 0585 ARMENIAN SMALL LETTER OH о 043E However the ArmenianGP proposal contains the 3rd homoglyph as shown below, which we consider visually confusable. Armenian Letter Cyrillic Letter ա U+561 Armenian small letter AYB ш U+448 Cyrillic small letter SHA Correspondingly we propose to add this homoglyph to the "Proposal for a Cyrillic Root Zone LGR". At the same time we think that the rest of the Armenian glyphs included in the "Appendix D: Confusion tables across scripts" can hardly be confused with the corresponding Cyrillic glyphs. The Latin GP is in the process of reviewing Latin/Cyrillic variants. So far (our work is still in progress) we have found several variants which do not appear in the list on pages 12 and 13 of the Proposal from the Cyrillic GP: Latin Cyrillic 00EF ï 0457 ї00E7 ç 04AB ҫ 0103 ă 04D1 ӑ0115 ĕ 04D7 ӗ0292 ʒ 04E1 ӡ0275 ɵ 04E9 Ө00FF ÿ 04F1 Ӱ0079 + 030B y̋ 04F3 Ӳ Note that the Latin GP has not yet finalized its repertoire, and the Variants WG has only processed about half of the codepoints so far accepted into the Latin repertoire. It is therefore entirely possible that we will have additional comments to make in the future (hopefully before the comment period expires)..Bill Jouris
