Removing price caps is unfair to the millions of domain registrants. They will have no price protections. Every registrant will be at the complete mercy and whims of the registry. This could result in a transfer of funds from millions of non-profits to one non-profit, with no benefits to the domain registrants.

I own a .org domain and I don’t believe the PIR should be allowed to set uncapped prices. The current system works perfectly well, and allows them to increase prices quite a lot already. Completely uncapped pricing would be harmful and discriminatory. Thanks, Matt Chaput

Hi, The situation of third word countries that create internacional initiatives on the web should be considered. Org domains are not only of US-based non profits, but also for more-than-one-country or international projects. 10 us$ in those countries is a lot of money, and the total amount of money collected by domain registrars is abusive. Probably making domains yet more expensive will lead to what happened to domain SSL certificates... market moving out of payed providers. Regards, Pablo.

.org domains are part of the foundation of the Web as we know it today. Perhaps more than any other TLD, individuals, small non-profits and community groups rely on the .org domain to publish their materials, find supporters and make a home on the Internet. By allowing unlimited price increases on these domains for no legitimate reason and in no way tied to the costs of maintaining the .org registry, ICANN would be putting all of these organizations' ability to communicate at risk. It is almost unconscionable to consider this provision in the .org registry renewal agreement. Dear ICANN, I am a domain name registrant. ICANN does not seem to recognize the difference between a legacy extension created with the support of the US government, that predates the existence of ICANN and that has millions of existing users and the brand new extensions that started off with a new set of rules, in particular no price controls, and no existing registrants. They have completely different characteristics, history, and ownership structure. It is not acceptable for ICANN to ignore these differences and to propose that they be treated the same. Removing price caps is not fair to .org domain owners. Many of them have websites that they have used for years. If price caps are removed, the cost to renew their domain names may become too expensive, and they could be forced to give up websites that are important to them. The Uniform Rapid Suspension policy is too new and untested to apply on domain names that may be 20 years old or more. With the URS, the domain names could be taken down in a matter of days with little notice. ICANN should be doing more to protect owners of .org domain names. Why is ICANN trying to remove price protections for .org domain owners, so many of which are non-profits, so that they can be overcharged for their domain names?

I’m hoping that my outreach to you will, along with the many others that I’m sure are commenting, chip away at your resolve to remove the price cap on .org domain names. I currently have two .org domains, lyon-smith.org and kathleensutton.org. The former is my personal domain, that have had for almost 20 years now. The latter is for a registered charity that helps with transportation costs for women with cancer. If you remove the price cap and we are forced to pick another domain name because the renewal price increases 100 times, you will disrupt decades of established connections to these domains. I have used the lyon-smith.org domain name in over 500 accounts online. My children use the same account and also have a similar number of accounts each. Really, the disruption you are planning to cause makes little sense, and seems motivated more by money that what will actually help people. I hope that the people behind this decision are not part of the current government administration that brought such horrible decisions as failure to uphold net neutrality. I’m asking you with the utmost sincerity and as much emotion as I can muster in an email, please, please to not do this. John Lyon-Smith

I would like to see the current process and rate charged for domain names remain unchanged. I have a small business and find it more and more difficult to operate with everyones rates going up. We need rates to remain stable and predictable in order to function. Thanks for your consideration.
