I am a .org registrant. ICANN does not seem to recognize the difference between a legacy extension created with the support of the US government, that predates the existence of ICANN and that has millions of existing users and the brand new extensions that started off with a new set of rules, in particular no price controls, and no existing registrants. They have completely different characteristics, history, and ownership structure. It is not acceptable for ICANN to ignore these differences and to propose that they be treated the same. Removing price caps is not fair to .org domain owners. Many of them have websites that they have used for years. If price caps are removed, the cost to renew their domain names may become too expensive, and they could be forced to give up websites that are important to them. The Uniform Rapid Suspension policy is too new and untested to apply on domain names that may be 20 years old or more. With the URS, the domain names could be taken down in a matter of days with little notice. ICANN should be doing more to protect owners of .org domain names. Why is ICANN trying to remove price protections for .org domain owners, so many of which are non-profits, so that they can be overcharged for their domain names? This reminds me of when I was a kid in the 1990's when it was said that Beckett Sports Card Magazine was messing with the prices of sport cards. Beckett was the standard for price guides and they dropped price for Micky's, Babes, etc. so that they could buy them cheap, and later on increased the value of those cards, or so that was what the story was back in those days when I attended sport card shows. Many non-profits use these domains and the majority of them do not have deep pockets. If the prices keep increasing, people will stop renewing their domains, many of which have been registered for years and those domains will go back in the market allowing domain squatters to keep doing what they do, buying domains and demanding big prices on them without ever wanting to use them. Domains are a digital product, the costs of transferring them are probably in the pennies. It's pure profit. Dear Sir/Madam, I am writing as I have been made aware that there is a potential that pricing caps for .org and .info domains may be removed with proposals being considered. I’d like to voice my concerns for this proposal and plea that this is rejected. For people with these domains already, they have been purchased with a price in mind, and although price increases are inevitable, these need to be controlled. Businesses and users alike have these domains, advertise with them and have made livings from the content displayed on these domain names. Large increases in the cost of these domains will be devastating and having a cap on increases is vital. I hope you’ll do what is right by the vast number of people who have invested in these domain names already and keep a price cap in place. Dear ICANN, I am a domain name registrant with a .info domain. ICANN staff should not unilaterally impose URS in legacy TLDs when that issue is precisely what is being examined by the volunteer ICANN Working Group who has been mandated to review this issue. ICANN policy making is supposed to be a ‘bottom up, multi-stakeholder model’. I believe that legacy gTLDs are fundamentally different from for-profit new gTLDs. Legacy TLDs are essentially a public trust, unlike new gTLDs which were created, bought and paid for by private interests. Registrants of legacy TLDs are entitled to price stability and predictability, and should not be subject to price increases with no maximums. Unlike new gTLDs, registrants of legacy TLDs registered their names and made their online presence on legacy TLDs on the basis that price caps would continue to exist. Unrestrained price increases on the millions of .org registrants who are not-for-profits or non-profits would be unfair to them. Unchecked price increases have the potential to result in hundreds of millions of dollars being transferred from these organizations to one non-profit, the Internet Society, with .org registrants receiving no benefit in return. ICANN should not allow one non-profit nearly unlimited access to the funds of other non-profits. ICANN appears to be entirely catering to registries by removing price caps. ICANN should stand up for the public interest and registrants!

Given that many non-profit organizations use a /org domain, removing the price cap could have an unexpected and negative impact on them. Those which already operate on a "shoestring" budget must seek to minimize costs wherever possible. Please do not remove the price caps and expose so many worthy causes to additional pure costs without any commensurate benefit. Sincerely, Michael

I respectfully make the following comments. I am a .org registrant. I’m the registrant of many other domains on other TLDs as well. I oppose the incorporation of the URS into the .org renewal agreement. The Internet is so broken right now. Please don’t allow more opportunists and those with already entrenched power to wield more power over the Internet. The way things have been going out there, putting .org control entirely in the hands of capitalism may make registration of .org domains excessively costly or impossible for the non-profits who typically use them. Don’t remove the price caps. Don’t turn .org into the free for all that the gTLD market is. /// *nate Boguszewski*---
