'ICANN's primary principles of operation have been described as helping preserve the operational stability of the Internet; to promote competition; to achieve broad representation of the global Internet community; and to develop policies appropriate to its mission through bottom-up, consensus-based processes' It sounds to me like ICANN it is another one of those organisations that has lost it ways.

I'm writing to oppose the removal of price caps on the .org domain. Doing so will only create a free-for-all on limitless price increases across the well-established board. The new GTLDs are already accepted as alternative options with price expectations that vary greatly based on the registry; however, current registrants of older well established extensions are expected to maintain some level of stability. Leave well enough alone and move forward without effecting millions and millions of current and well established registrants who expect their domain expenses to remain reasonable, affordable and stable. -- Andres Proano

Hello, I am a .org registrant. Advancements in technology should be driving the cost of operating a registry down, yet prices keep going up? Removing price caps is unfair to the millions of domain registrants. They will have no price protections. Every registrant will be at the complete mercy and whims of the registry. This could result in a transfer of funds from millions of non-profits to one non-profit, with no benefits to the domain registrants. ICANN should be looking out for the .org registrants, in particular the non-profits. There is no "public benefit" justification to these changes. It is just a handout to business at the expense of registrants’ rights and protections. Where are the protections for the millions of domain registrants that this could effect in a negative way? These changes would give way too much power to the registry. This is not acceptable for a "public benefit" organization that exists to represent many stakeholders. Regards, Nadine Ndoua Bone

I respectfully make the following comments. I am a .org registrant (arbanas.org / glenorchard.org) Legacy gTLDs are fundamentally different from for-profit new gTLDs and should be treated that way. Legacy TLDs are what the internet was built on. They are essentially a public trust. They are very different than new gTLDs which were created, bought and paid for by private parties. Registrants of these legacy extensions should be entitled to price predictability & stability. Advancements in technology should be driving the cost of operating a registry down, yet prices keep going up? Removing price caps is unfair to the millions of domain registrants. They will have no price protections. Every registrant will be at the complete mercy and whims of the registry. This could result in a transfer of funds from millions of non-profits to one non-profit, with no benefits to the domain registrants. ICANN is supposed to represent a "bottom up, consensus-driven multistakeholder model". ICANN should not unilaterally impose URS in legacy TLDs when that issue is precisely what is being examined by the volunteer ICANN Working Group who has been mandated to review this issue. ICANN should be looking out for the .org registrants, in particular the non-profits. There is no "public benefit" justification to these changes. Dont make .org 's domains so expensive that to have several .orgs to communicate in this fragmented online world the preserve of those who can afford such and also give certainty of security of a registration that a body can build their organization upon

Don't let them increase the .org cost by whatever $ they want! .org is an important domain for non-profits who often scrape by. The contract should be kept at only a 10% increase a year

I would like to voice my firm opposition to the part of the proposed Registry Agreement changes that would remove price caps for .org domain names. I have worked in the internet sector almost my entire professional career (nearly 25 years) and have firsthand experience with the extent to which it has changed during that time. I also still remember when the only three TLDs were .com, .net and .org, and that the latter's original purpose was for use by nonprofit entities or others that generally serve the public interest. While I'm aware that this restriction was lifted quite some time ago, and plenty of business entities and people with zero intents in that area can (and do) register .org names, it doesn't change the fact that .org domain names are still widely used by nonprofit / public-interest organizations around the world. Even if ICANN is excluding legacy .org domain owners from the pricing changes, this does not account for the suffix's certain use by future nonprofits in coming decades. And while allowing price increases for .org names is one thing (and in my view a reasonable one, assuming they're in line with current domain-name price increases generally), eliminating *all* price caps is another story. I would urge ICANN to eliminate this portion of the proposed changes, or at the very least allow for exceptions in instances when purchasers of both new .org domains -- and acquisition of preexisting ones -- can tangibly show (through any of myriad means) that their use of the domains will serve the public good in some capacity. Please reconsider the proposal to remove price caps from the new gTLD contract with PIR. In other words, I support price caps that keep pricing stable for legacy domains including .org, .info, and even .biz. Otherwise, PIR could raise prices sharply, and domain name registries would be forced to pass that cost on to owners, affecting many smaller organizations and small business owners (like myself). To Whom It May Concern: As a designer serving several nonprofit organizations, I wanted to express an opinion about the proposed price increases for .ORG domain names. If drastic increases come for .ORG domain names, I think this will be a major impediment to formation of new nonprofit organizations. At the very least, it will raise the hurdle for nonprofits to move from the "bootstrap" phase into legitimacy. It's already difficult enough for service-minded people to establish a board, enlist volunteers, raise funds, manage tax filings, and communicate professionally. If .ORG domain names were to quickly inflate in price, it would increase the friction and the resistance that startup organizations face. The result is that fewer mission-oriented nonprofits will be able to launch and grow. It would also result in fewer startup organizations using the .ORG extension. This won't just hurt executive directors or would-be organization leaders; I think it will damage the public trust. Please look for ways to keep the .ORG extension registration prices low. There are plenty of other TLDs that should be subject to unfettered market forces. The .ORG extension, however, is unique in that it is sought by startup nonprofits and charities. In the spirit of Alex de Tocqueville's observations about institutions and charities in the 17th century United States, I believe it's important that nonprofits and charities be encouraged and fostered. Keeping the .ORG extension affordable is one way we can encourage these vital organizations in our culture. Thank you for your consideration.
